Good evening all Veedubba owners,
Can any of you fine people tell me which is the best model Beetle between 1971 & 1976.
Thank You

it all comes down to personal opinion but i like the 72 1302s sbugs.

Hello barls,
Is there much on road noticeable power difference between 1302s and the 1600.

barls ·
the 1302s are 1600 twin ports so none at all. 1302s is the model number also know as the 72 sbug. they are under powered compared to the one im driving now
MISS VDUB ·
1303 L Bug all the way!!!!

Thank you all,
It is amazing what you learn when you get game enough to ask.

Again, it is down to personal opinion. Some say that the super bugs are best and some say they are not. I own a 74 1300 (with engine upgrade to 1640). I love it to bits. Its currently undergoing a full rebuild at the moment

My bf's 73 L Bug is pretty damn shweet... :P
Joel ·
like others have said its all down to personal prefernce
but i prefer superbugs
ive had 1 Sbug and 4Lbugs and the strut front end with a bit of work craps all over the 70 year old dinosaur designed front end
dont get me wrong theres nothing wrong with the torsion bar front end i also have 3 of them but for the ultimate in handling u cant beat struts
plus a german look Lbug on 18 porsche rims is pure sex LOL

they are all great i reckon, but have a drive of a rack and pinion 75 bug.....nice
Bizarre ·
a 75L rack and pinion is the "best" of the supers.
As you have included 1976 then the 1976 "last of the Aust beetles" is best of the standards.
So - your choice is between a
1975 L Super Beetle - strut front end
or
1976 Standard Beetle with ball joint torsion bar front end.
I have a 1975 L Bug and am VERY happy with its handling
super dubba ·
Yep it is between 75 L and a 76 S Now to fina a good one and that word GOOD sure has a lot of meanings.lol
Joel ·
good luck
those are the 2 hardest to get late models
but every now and again u get lucky and find a good one
they were very rust prone in the back pillars and quarter panels thanks to some jerks idea of putting fuller foam in there as noise/dust proofing

Thank you very much Joel any other tips would be very gratefully excepted.
I am reading and have read the following--VW Buyer's Guide by Peter Vack The super Beetle Handbook and The essential Buyer's Guide VW Beetle by Ken Cservenka & Richard Copping.
I have contacted VWCOOL about his 76 beetle But he has not replied as yet.
