Check out this web site a photographer from Lismore Herb Festival last year has put a couple of pics on there.
My friend emailed me the link today and asked if it was my car. I think that it's pretty cool that the photographer liked my car enough to take some really nice pics:thumb. My car and others are celebrity's now. lol
I'd be interested in the legality of his actions without consent of the owner when he is using these images to make money.
Just wondering, anyone know the intricacies of this?

public place = public photo no legal implications. be proud it was deemed worthy of a piccy

I can't see anything wrong with that really... Rose
as You didn't actually take the photo...
but something may happen in the future, as just about everyone has a camera these days....
Why do they blank out licence plates??
I notice on many pics of VWs from the USA , the liicence plates are blanked out...
I can't really see what effect that has....
I notice on some TV shows they do it too...
in most countries....??

The Newcastle Herald asked to take photos of my car for the motoring section, then wanted to sell me copies of the photos!! My car....their photos. I think thats the way the process works?

The plates are "blanked out" so the less desireables can't find out where the owner lives/steal it or woteva.....

jsut ask for a free copy.
thats about all, and the guy should be polite/kind enough to produce. i did that with some one selling pics of mine. just asked nicely and he said sure.

Unfortunately, I think the photographer who took the picture owns the copyright to the photos, not the subject, or the owner of the subject in this case. Just think about all the celebrity photos in published in mags, I'm pretty sure the celebs in question haven't authorised the photos of them with no make up or their bits hanging out.
The idea behind blanking no plates is so that potential thieves cannot track down your address from the rego no and come and steal your car.

I don't see what the difference is as you have to have a licence plate on your car when you drive it down the street, so if there is a theif out there, they can see it on your car any way......

When you take photos of a person you need the model to sign a 'Model release' form before you can sell or publish a photo of them but what the legalities of someone earning money from something of yours is very suss. Maybe worth looking into though!
