I borrowed this catalogue from a friend and have scanned all the body mouldings applicable to Volkswagen

These were made by Canopy Industries Pty Ltd at Marrickville, Sydney

they were sold under the trade name of Tilli Products, and were available for most makes of cars including Ford, Holden, Morris, Peugeot, Simca, Vauxhall and of couse Volkswagen

good pick up on the info dave thanks 👍

Bizarre ·

Any chance we can get a current car picture of these??

MV12 is the common one

Doesnt 1963Raider?? (Bill from Tas) have one of the others

What about the Type 3 flashes. Anyone have a car with these???

boristherat ·

Wow, some great stuff there.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but, what is the general feeling about people replicating flash etc. with paint? Is it classified as a no no and naff? I reckon I could make it look ok.

vw54 ·

heres a pic of my car fitted with the MV14 kit

vw54 ·

any more pics ??

BUGBOY ·

This oval has had it taken off and kept in a safe place.
I also have the MV14 with alloy inserts.

"" I also have the MV14 with alloy inserts.""

Nathan... yeah i have the MV14 with the alloy inserts as well but didnt like the look of them so i left them off and paint the section to match my wheel and interior trim

whatnow ·

nice score bugboy, until this post i had never seen that style before and i've been addicted to these things for over 10 years.

vw 54 i've seen a few late 50's early 60's holdens with additional trim. is that also made by the same firm?

That is great dave, I have the mv14a, I had obtained it off a mate....From what I have heard they used to anodise the corregated metal sections in different colours...my one is a faded gold colour...does anyone have a car with this trim not fitted to see where the best spots are to drill? cheers...zsolt...brisbane...

vw54 ·

yeah i have a silver anodised alloy section

DR PEPPER ·

I got mv 12 and would live to swap it for mv16 or mv 18.Anyone....

phantom ·

So, can anyone help me identify the trim on this beetle?

I haven't seen it anywhere else.....which is a shame, cos I only have one side! Any ideas?

they are both really georgous cars,

I have the m14 alloy insert trim on my 65 golde & the regular flash trim on the 60 bug,

would be nice to see some of the other styles on cars today.

a guy told me he threw his flash trim in the bin a few months back when he started doing up his beetle,:duh
he nearly cried when I told him how much they sell for !!🤪

how wonderfull to see yet another kit has ended up in US

it annoys me that ppl have only decided these flash kits are flash in the pan (excuse the pun) in the last few years
a mate of mine thats a panel beater spray painter that painted my bug has sprayed a few bugs in his time and siad it used to piss him off in the 80s and early 90s welding all the holes up cos ppl wanted them removed

give it a few more years everyone now will be bitching about the holes theyve drilled in the sides of there bugs

i knew of few bugs with them in a grave yard here that was all crushed by sims a few years ago
hindsight's a bitch

and this old girl was one of the most rust free original bugs u would find, only rear panels were repainted due to and engine fire
to this day shes still sitting in a shed over in south lismore
i ended up highest bidder on it at an auction ages ago but the owners under the illusion that its worth $800 LOL

HotVolkswagenz ·

Im just glad i have my original set and they will NEVER be coming off.(unless they get stolen or something) Soon to be cruising the streets of California!

penguin ·

If that was for me, I saw th above shots Dave, but they were notchs. Anyone seen a flask kit on a square?

Dibsy ·

I have just picked up another Aussie Flash set, but different from the others. Anyone seen this style before ?

vw54 ·

YES very different

Looks like a combination of 2 different kits

Is it all stainless

Dibsy ·

Yes, all stainless and different contours and lengths to my MV12 kit. The door trim has a lovely curve and fits the door perfectly.

Came off a 1964 Beetle.

vw54 ·

Interesting are both side the same ?? Looks great

Carl and Emily ·

I don't think the back half is any particular kit.
The bottom rear piece doesn't look right.
Sharp edge on the bottom that would normally be used to butt up against another piece of trim or door opening and rounded end is butted up against the top trim.
and the gap between the bottom rear trim and the rear guard doesn't look right.
Maybe they lost some bits along way and have just used what they could find.
or,.. maybe the person who put it on originally had had a few too many,...😂

That looks to me to be incorrectly fitted. I've seen some shockers over the years.

In the late '50s, early '60s, I fitted quite a few as part of my job as a panelbeater at a VW dealership. We had 'jigs' for most of the kits, which made it easier to drill the holes in the right places.

Dibsy ·

I agree, The door trim is spot on and contoured like none I found in the catalogue, The rear big piece appears that it should be in line with the door piece horizontal or tapering downwards. Both sides of the car are identical and all ends are properly formed like my normal aussie flash set.

Perhaps they where taken off a different make of car and fitted to this one years ago ?
