If Registration has lapsed

bjlookin ·

I have a question to ask.
Now I am not sure of the year of the Beach Buggy but I am looking at buying a Beach Buggy that needs a bit of work done to it.
It was registered in WA, but the registration has lapsed.

What is the situation there when you come to re-registering a Beach Buggy.
Do you need to modify, change, comply with new laws etc.
All I want to know is how much it is going to cost me to get it back onto the road and start enjoying that Beach Buggy Life.

Thanks

How long has it lapsed??

In NSW within 3 mths is is just a matter of a new pink slip and off you go.

If longer different story.
Do you have proof of previous registration?
Do you have Eng Cert for the works done?
Is it road worthy?

Yes I know it has been registered, but the person has not paid for the registration and I am not sure for how long yet. It may be 6 - 12 months ago.
Over in WA you just have to keep paying the rego and you are alright there are no pink slips over here (some people might disagree tho) :P
Thanks

lol i think here in W.A we would have so many less cars on the road if we had to pit it every time we paid registration

I can give you the name of an engineer who may give it a quick look at it for around $200. At that price you may need to take it to him. He did a good little job for someone I know recently on the basis that he didn't need to travel. If you need to get an engineer to help you do a full job, it should cost about $800 in total.

First, I think that you need to contact The Vehicle Safety Branch, Technical Section, of the Dept for Planning and Infrastructure in Welshpool. The direct phone number is 9351 1680.

Tell them the whole story without telling them the details of the car. Don't give them engine, chassis or rego numbers. If you can prove previous rego tell them that you can, as that may be the big winning card in your hand. Have a long talk, ask lots of questions, don't identify yourself. Act a bit dumb and in search of answers and a quick and efficient solution to the problem. Be very polite and thankful for their help.

If you need some papers go and get them anonymously over the counter, rather than get them posted to you. You will need all sorts of forms and papers to tell you what you need to comply with. You do not want to create a file until you are ready to get the rego done.

The one thing that you do not want to do is to get involved with the Individually Constructed Vehicle (ICV) minefield. That is driving me crazy at the moment in relation to my kit car. The main problem is the shortening of the body pan. It causes the car to become a new car with a need to comply with the 2004 Australian Design Rules (ADR). Whatever you do avoid that.

Thanks shaihulud,
I may want the name of that engineer, after all said and done I want a Beach Buggy and if the it takes some $$ to get the project off the ground so be it. The good thing I think is that it has been registered but it has expired about 10 months ago which is a bugger.
But I have always wanted one so I will let you know what happens.

Thanks
