HELP NEEDED YEAR OF \"STANDARD\" BEETLE

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/62393/help-needed-year-of-standard-beetle

ponybeetle ·

Hello,

can anyone please help me confirm year of a beetle in my shed that was sold to me as a 67 model.

she is an early model beetle, but is on a disc brake pan.
(body may have been put onto this pan by someone.)

front body id plate reads 957007**
chassis / pan reads 1957007**

standard model body (no glove box door, no hoodlining around sides back etc) but has chrome side mouldings ??

anyway, & I have to decide if I will wreck it or not, as I wanted to use this ones engine for my rat project.

thanx Charmaine.

Looks like you have a Aussie built 1965 model

1 = Beetle
9 = Australia built
5 = 1965
7007** is the chassis number or build number

and it matches the front ID plate

Standards where build from 63 to 67 lots of different items to a Deleux

mmmkay.. how about post some pics then we can see maybe wot ya got..
secondly, have a look under the bonnet and check the back of the speedo housing it will have a date of manufacture on it somewhere..
thats a quick and fairly easy indication as to what year the beetle may be,
unless the speedo has been replaced but as vw are soooo reliable it should be from factory..
now for u to put some pics up n let us know what the date is yeah..

Hi guys,

I didn't know how to work out the numbers..very interesting, thanx for that info.

what about the late pan? (maybe it has been restamped?)😢

speedo has been changed to 74 bug with built in fuel gauge & it also has the standard early beetle gauge !! & neither were connected LOL.

I haven't been able to work out how to load pic's I joined photobucket today, after 3 hrs of mucking round couldn't get them to load on here.😬

thanx for you responses,very much appreciated,
Charmaine.

But it is 1965 pan.

But 4 stud with disc brake front weren't in australia till 68? & then it was with the new shape body ,

definately a late pan it has late gear shift & more square type accelerater pedal.

May have had a disc brake conversion? Do you know how to tell if it has link pins or balljoint front suspension?

ponybeetle ·

I can't tell if it has had the hubs / disc converted, all looks normal to me.

it does have the early type king pin front end.

That means - to me - you have the 'proper' pan for that year model, with a brake conversion
