My manual is horrible. Only taught myself because I had to move cars in and out of showrooms and the work shop. Time I actually learnt to drive manual properly. Anybody willing to teach me?

You could try a driving school.

As an idea an american i know needed to get his hours up for an Australian licence.
rather than pay $75 an hour he put an add on Gumtree offering to pay $20.00 per hr + petrol to drive a qualified licence persons car and have them sign off.
he drove around and went where he wanted and saved money.
thought that was smart thinking

Try a professional driving instructor. That way you can screw their clutch and destroy their gearbox while you are learning ! :bounce
It is also far easier to learn in a "newer" car than an old one. I first learnt to drive manual in a 68 beetle and it almost did my head in. Much much easier in a newer car ......

I just taught my 17yr old daughter how to drive in her 72 super. I told her if you can handle the VW you can drive just about anything!

Gotta agree with ya Chadmyster.
I learnt to drive in a new car. The only 2 cars I have owned are over 40 years old and behave like tempramental little brats!:bounce I can drive them misbehavin any time and make it look easy, but I am a crap driver in new cars (I still can't get over how late people brake when driving a car with disc brakes. Sheesh. Try driving with 4 drums in the wet!!:cussing).

Yeah but when your first learning the mechanics of driving a manual car then it is far easier to be able to do it in a car that won't misbehave, that way you can concentrate on the clutch and how to take off and how to brake etc etc instead of worrying about other things like the gearbox popping out of gear etc etc etc ..... And once you have mastered the basics then you can learn to drive a "naughty car".
Believe it or not, driving manual is something that does not comes easily or natural to some people. It took me ages to learn it and I actually gave up and drove an auto for years. I used to always say that if we were meant to drive manual then we would have 3 feet!! Mind you, I only drive manual now.

it is more fun trying to keep a car going at lights that wants to konk out or a gear stick with plenty of play and as Adam said stock brakes (no ABS). I bet new car buyers dont get waves and thumbs up from strangers and fellow VW drivers as they cruise around!!!!!!!!!!
