how do you have your heartlights wired?

quick question regarding hearts.

Is the correct setup with hearts to have the heart light as the brake light, and the flat frontal lense as the park light?

_me_ ·

yeah, my hearts are just the brakes....

that sounds like a good idea, for safety sake, I had thought about doing that just didn't know how to or that you could buy parts.

I had a 3rd light wired in though, maybe not the prettiest thing, but for now its a safety thing more than anything else and it kinda suits the ratty look how I did it, and when/if I resto, the dual filaments would be a goer!

Can you let me know the score with them?

going with that theory, you could run the brake and taillights in he back lenses and indicators in the hearts! how cool would that be, no need for nasty aftermarket indicaotrs, keep the semaphores and use the hearts and it would look sweet as!

after 3 months & few people nearly not stopping in time, I chckened out & swapped wires & bulbs so that the heart is the tailight, no problems since

"""" after 3 months & few people nearly not stopping in time, I chckened out & swapped wires & bulbs so that the heart is the tailight, no problems since ""

Kim I think thats the best idea

thats how mine were, and I still felt it was dangerous, because either way the hearts aren't overly visible, and at night with the hearts as the tail/park light only they weren't able to be seen too easily, then the correct way they aren't too visible as a brake, which is why I went with a 3rd, middle light!

As for doing the indicators in the hearts thing, decent idea with the dual filament frontal lense mod. But can you wire indicators in and still have the sempjores working(?) my understanding is, either/or, can't have both?

I am "lucky" to have repro plastic lenses which let a bit more light through, & 12 volts, I also have a fairly bright bulb for the number plate light, no reason why you can not have both semahores & indicators, one wire from switch to semaphres & one to flasher box & indicators, & decide which circuit to use for your dash indicator

hey thats cool for the night however the daytime is an entirely different thing.. my 54 may now look a bit like a xmas tree at the rear but it is unmistakeable when i am stopping and for these modern times with modern drivers who dont look down that low, below eye level, they can see my intentions..
i had a few near miss's thus loaded the rear up with stop lights.. and no probs since..
mine are also the flat lense..

I am with Kim, after a few close calls of unaware drivers almost running up the ar$e of the 54, I swapped wires and bulbs around so the flat lenses are the brake lights - not as many close calls fortunately.

it is not just the brightness or size, the botoom lenses are the ones that drivers EXPECT to see light up, that is what they are subconciously watching, & a seconds delay can make a big difference, I thought about double filaments but discarded on the basis that a second set of lights coming on are more noticable at night than the same lights getting brighter

I totally agree, and for when I resto/mod the 55 I will be getting the wires swapped back to how they were, and how you guys have them, but for now, and seeing I reckon I can pull off a trashy 3rd light with the ratty look, I'm happy having it setup correctly knowing the 3rd light is ample brakelighting even if the hearts aren't all that visible

One second is three car lengths at urban speeds... Enough to put u in hospital.

I was hit - hard - three times in not much more than 6 years in my Oval, despite having a LED centre high mount stop light in my rear window. One hit was hard enough to bend the gearbox front mount and close up the door gaps... but they fixed it

You can NEVER have too much brake light!
