At last a forum for the ugly step child. What are we going to kick it off with?
I'll start...hands up who has a type 3 or KG.
I have a '69 notch which I drive every day. Compliments the TAT turbo beetle.
I know this has been done before but it will be easy to search on now.

Type3Sicko ·
Lovin the 3's, just had my '65 square passed for rego, on the road and running, everything is stock standard, a comfortable 75 mph on the straightaway............................... good old data abstraction thingy, pics under 50 kb so may try later, now for beer, rock on type 3's!

I don't own a Type 3. But you mentioned Ghias.

wow! the twin of my old one (just sold), same colour, year, black widies (my tyres were a size smaller, 195s and 175s), only your onw doesnt have little patches of other colour paints and touch-ups!
kombimatt ·
Very ratty 71 Fasty. Basically all complete, very solid underneath.
Unloved on the inside and outside. Currently unreg and off the road but soon to be cruisin' around.
electricmonk ·
I love the colour of yours empikg. I wish mine was that colour or the light tan.
baybuscamperkid the only reason mine does not have patches of colour is that it's a dailey driver and I don't have a friggen clue how to do bodywork 🙂 I remember that when I was looking there was another the same year and colour, it had those stick on white walls and new carpet but was $2500. This one was originally $1800 but had carb/ignition trouble. I nearly passed it up but the owner rang and said I could have it for $800. All I had to do to get it running fairly well was to replace one idle solenoid. It's a 1700 from the paperwork but I still think its not running to it's best potential. Once I get the left carb back to stock float and jetting I can at least eliminate them.
Nice cars everyone, great to see them

penguin ·
Oh, its name is not yet known, but it may be redheaded step child..... not sure yet.
electricmonk ·
Lucky bugger. I wanted to bid on that but just too far away and funds limited atm.
Some very nice cars are popping up in here. Have to admit I didn't think there would be all that many. Gives me renewed vigiour to get stuck into mine, once I get ANOTHER dam fan and have it balanced before it goes on. The amount of times I have purchased parts and then had to go out and buy the same thing again shits me. lol I went through two brand new coild in three days. Parts ain't what they used to be.

Dean, I've been expecting a scantly clad model to be beside that glorious ghia in my junk mail. What ever happened to that photoshoot? Did they photo shop the model out of the pic as the ghia was too sexy on it's own?:P

Sorry guys. Been AWOL.
Thanks for the nice comments. Been thinking about selling lately. Not quite sure what to do. After the trip to the US, I may keep her a little longer.. A few more mods coming up soon. Nice, and old skool.
I'm replacing the starter this weekend(I hope) so I will get some new pics. Those pics are a few years old..

Hi! I have a 1972 Type 3 squareback in mustard! I'm actually needing to sell this beast (very sadly), as I don't have anywhere to store it while I work on it. If anyone is interested in picking this up (for a bargain), or know of anyone who wants one, please reply and let me know!

Got to love Jimbo`s "Nelly" fantasic car !!! Jim I am not sure how you can make it look any better !!! What sort of mods are you thinking or are you going to keep us holding ?
We should have our square on the road next week. I cant wait.
P.S Is it lowered three in the front and two in the rear ?
Cheers
Matt
BenettonVW ·
I'm not sure yet which way to head Matt. Maybe red rims and whitewalls, for the hot rod look, or more Type 3 accessories, like I found in the US that are sensational, and not seen in Oz much at all.
Where's the pics of the Square!?! You find those gravel gaurds? Volkkommen lowered Nellie, so I'm not sure what was done to achieve the stance.. I know it can't go much more without bags.. 🙂
matttyler ·
We pick up the square on Saturday if all goes to plan I will post some pics then. Had a look at it yesterday looks pretty good so know I am on the accessories hunt !! Mate ,no luck with the gravel guards.
Whatever you do to Nelly it will still look the goods !!!!
Cheers

Just picked up my third type three today! will try and get some pics up next weekend. i have a 64 square which is my daily, 64 notch which is a joint project with dad and picked up a late (not def on year) square today. none of them are what you would call tip top shape (not even close actually!) but once the kombi is finished i want to get stuck into the 64 square, nothing over the top, just a really clean daily.

ok i'm lazy and computer illiterate so can't post. i currently have 5 type 3's. 3 of these are on the way out.
i am keeping my 72 square as it may be used in a musical later this year.
i am also holding onto my 66 fasty. it's in great nic, and may soon become a daily driver for me.
will post pics sooner or later
marv ·
Here's mine - 72 - this is the before shot - the afters will be here soon.
axlepressbutton ·
My project getting there!
4" narrowed beam, dropped spindles and CB disc brake kit went in this week.
Next, new loom, headliner, rubber and glass.
Anyone with a Ghia that is willing to help me out with reference pictures of Ghia window and door seals in place, and certain sections of the loom showing where it runs? I'll give specifics if someone is willing to put their hand up. Long time since I broke her down (pre digital cameras)
Cheers.

Just an update on my '67 Square and the right hand floorpan replacement. The old crusty one was removed, and the heater channels and tunnel were all solid.
The new pan half I bought has the right profile and dimensions, but the monkey who put the bolt holes in can't measure, so I have to re-drill all the holes to match the body. Some of the holes on the new pan don't even come close to the original ones!
I spoke with Kimm from Indian Automotive and he wasn't surprised to hear that things didn't match. He's done a few Type 3's in his time, and the key word is fabrication - there's not much available for Type 3, and of what there is, a lot of the aftermarket panels are just not up to scratch.
Of course, the other alternative is to find another pan, but I'm not up for another body off resto just yet.
So, out with the drill press....
Petey ·
Hi everyone!
Here's my Squarey...
bigdave ·
Thats noice, Petey. Again with the clear indicators. Where do you get em?
Davey
Petey ·
I got them from ISP west's ebay page. They look cool but they don't fit very well, I had to sand them for ages to get them close to the correct shape.
