Here in WA we have a "Hoon Law" where the car is confiscated for 2 days for a first offence. It doesn't seem to be having much effect. Certainly not where I live. Maybe we need that sort of zero tollerance approach.
I have a neighbour who has a 56 Chevy 2 door with a 550 cube big block engine with a 8-71 Jimmy blower on it. He leaves rubber trails and enormous noise wherever he goes. I'd hate to see it crushed.
Maybe we should only target ricers as they seem to be the worst offenders or should I say the most offensive.
Ooops! My prejudices are showing.

we have that law in QLD too shaihulud, i was at work on sunday and happend to be covering someone in the TAB and so was at the front of the pub where i could see the road and the carpark, theres a major set of lights just out the front and some undercover guys were in a lowered done up SS ute sitting at the lights, another guy in an ss pulled up and smoked it up a bit and wanted to race them, the did him for hooning and took him into the pub carpark and he caught a taxi home and a towie came for his ute, kinda felt sorry for the guy, but i guess he deserved it.

Its not quite as simple as get caught racing and get your car crushed...
I read the article in our local US paper the other day...
Most of the cars have a history of illegal racing, and also ALL have stolen parts in them, which is VERY common in both those cities where the police are cracking down on it.
CA has very strict emmision laws too, and none of these cars abide by the rules...
I think the Australian police should target ALL makes of cars street racing, and doing burnouts etc on the road, I have seen just as many commodores and falcons as I have 'ricers' doing dumb sh*t on the roads....
I was just over in CA for a few weeks, and I honestly see more stupid and dangerous driving in Melbourne than there, just there are hundreds of thousands more cars there!!

I agree, all "hoons" should be punished, it doesn't matter what type of car they are using. That kind of driving belongs in a controlled environment like a race track.
