WTB Early Notch rear window rubbers

Notch Nut ·

G'day.
I am wondering if anyone may know of the whereabouts of a decent window rubber seal for the Rear windscreen of an early notchback. (Melbourne would be ideal if possible for pick up but not exclusive or fussed either way).
Im also not after the Cal look either. Just after something of high quality that fits properly without too much hassle.
Any hints or info on brands or previous hassles with various types of rubber seals available welcome also.

Cheers.

I dont think you will find an origional screen rubber with the groove these days

It will have to be after market and you may have to use a different type of trim

Give Vintage a call 02-9789-1777 they may have an old stock, and do have the aftermarket version

Got mine from Vintage Veedub in Sydney. Only place in the southern hemisphere that carried the one with the moulding groove.

Excellent fit and quality.

I bought a rear Notch window rubber from Wolfsburg 1300370310 worth a try.

Adam

Ive just checked with Vintage for you and they have some origional type rubbers available with the groove

Notch Nut ·

Thanks guys.
I'm gonna try Vintage on my day off Tuesday and see how I go.

Just got off the phone to vintage. Most helpful and great price.👍

Now if only the rain would stop a bit so my car won't leak until then:duh

Cut the old rubber off with a Stanley knife both inside and outside so you get the glass out in one piece will save a lot of frustration

Notch Nut ·

Not to mention, saving the metal trim from distorting in shape so it can be re-used!:alien

jo_tas ·

Yeah... mine got distorted..
My panel beater put it in a place he reckoned would be really safe.. and it wasn't.. grr

Jo Panel Beaters are like that LOL

Notch Have you fitted a window before ??? If not the fit the rubber to the glass then fit the trim onto the rubber then into the car yo will need a few mates as well to help n hold in the right place

I did it a few times trying to fit the trim to the rubber after the glass was in teh car IT DONT work that way

Notch Nut ·

I have only fitted my pop outs to my notch (with a broken wrist in plaster - I had nothing else to do while off work with an injury like that!:duh)
I am planning on getting O'brien glass to do the fitting. They come with a guarantee and plenty of that special sealant.
I am just removing the old rubbers/window & mouldings so as to avoid damage and do any clean up necessary once the window is removed.
Cheers for the advice😀

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo

Obriens Yuk

Is there a VW guy down your way that can do the job

If your body shell is clean and the drain holes are clear DONT use any sealant thats why the rubber is used

I luv fittings windows wish i was down yr way make sure they center the rubber on the glass it always looks ugly when the rubber join is in the wrong spot

Hi Adam,
I used VVWS rubbers for my front/back screens. Theyre VERY good. Im also echoing Daves post above...Dont use sealant!
Cheers,
Hucho.

Notch Nut ·

Ok. I won't use sealant nor fork out $$$ for O'brien etc.
That being the case, it looks like a beer drinking session interupted by the occasional bit of work on the dub with the usual suspects then....

Thanks for all your help and advice. It's so much more comforting than wondering if/how it could get botched up by my interferance.😵‍💫
