well as the title says ,the daughters bf has got the bug or should i say hes bought one ,its a 70 beetle with 1600 t/p some rust but nothing not fixable so now its back to seven cars around the house (3 beetles,2 fords,1 holden,1 pulsar) pics etc later:thumb:thumb

one of the rusty bits,where seal rail is rusted right through
bad repair on the roof from previous ,previous owner filled dent with bog water has got under and rusted it ,i put some paint on to help stop it going further

there is a colour on 73-76 vws similar but its called mellow yellow.... go figure i call it fanta orange LOL
i know some ppl that had a 74 1300 in mellow yellow
they sent ti to be resprayed the original colour when it came back it was martini olive :duh

well the heater channels are a darker orange ,close to red🤪 so it has been resprayed a lighter orange but will change no doubt

i think its going blue,and no doof doof cars here,doof doofing a beetle is close to blasphemy isnt it🤪

Hi,
You can take the metal channel strip holding the rubber seal around the boot,
and replace it with Mexican type seal
which clips onto the bonnet lip...
You will still need the original rubber across the top...
now its looking better, i think those bug eyed baja kits are the dogs nads. i'd love one.
so are you going to keep it orange or has the kit put a different perspective on the car now?

ive got 4 litres of red paint i got for nicks so red it will be,and will have to put wider apart headlights for rego, but will probably put some spotties in the middle holes

well a little update it now looks like this

more updates
well the Oz day long weekend seemed as good as any to do some rust work
the dark area had a plate pop riveted and a few tack welds over the rusty bits :shock:
both rear corners and the left hand heater channel bottom corner along the lip
next to fill in the holes some idiot cut for speakers
a couple of 15 x 6" rims i picked up ,so now i need some 235 /75 x 15 a/t tyres for them
well the rims now have tyres, $85 each with 10mm tread depth
and a full shot
hopefully start the bar-work next week as the tube has been ordered,just waiting for it to be delivered to my work
and the baja now belongs to me, as the daughters bf decided it was costing to much,so i paid him his original purchase price as i`ve bought everything else 😀

no brackets are needed ,thats how they are run to take the bigger tyres,you can get wider than these are,plus tail lights will be changed to early beetle style🤖

well i`ve mounted the crossbar ,but my hoop part seems to be going \ will have to sort it out as i go
added rear bar this weekend and trial fitted exhaust will have to add another cross brace underneath then take it to work to weld it up fully with a better mig than i have at home

well finally had time to do a bit more ,pulled out the windows ,changed a door then started to strip some of the paint, and low and behold whats the pink stuff🙄,argghh bog ,thank god it wasnt over rust just a wavy panel , so still stripped it back will put some primer on then will try and get it a bit straighter🙂

added the edging to the mesh at work,will look better once its painted with the rest of the bar work. had an hour or so to spare today so i concocted together the mesh for the top which will be edged at work as well

will try to get something as its in pieces ,but if i can,i might fit bits on to give a general perspective of what it will look like ,minus the motor which is in bits as i`m putting some rings in and fixing the tinware etc..been busy with a gemini (rust work and a head job) and a nissan pulsar (quick paint job) my kids cars 🥲 might have to start charging them Volks Dollars for what else i need 😂

NSW doesn't have blue plates / mod plates.
Only engineers certificate

you can get a mod plate these days. the system is setup so you can have either a certificate/plate or both.

been playing with pulsars and geminis ,son wants to put twin cam into his gem,now that ive got the stock donk going properly and rust issues fixed😁
well actually this is the last thing i`ve done and that was a month ago ,but i`ve been on holidays for 2 1/2 weeks of that 🥲
stupid people with pop rivets,so out it came and a new piece WELDED in 👍
