My gasket set has 4 cylindrical seals. An old haynes manual shows them going on the head studs that the rocker arm attaches to.
is this correct? They are about 6mm high. I dont really trust this manual.
thanks for any advice.

My Bentley manual says to renew the rocker shaft stud seals but doesn't show what they look like...

I can't remember them when I changed heads a few years ago....

It depends on what model heads you have. Long storey short, fit rocker seals if there is a groove that accepts them under the rocker shaft, at the base of the rocker gear mounting studs.

There is a machined surface which an o ring could fit into but nowhere near deep enough to take these, as i was saying they are about 6 mm high

That sounds right, they are not an o-ring. They compress down and form into the groove. I've just done the heads on my '65 notch which has the early heads, the seals are as you described.
