Lowering 71 Bug

Hey guys, I've got my first Bug and wanna drop the front a bit, 2.5" should be good. Now I've been reading all over this site about drop spindles and beams, what exactly do I need to do the job as I use to cars which only require a spring and shock change! I've got drum front end and the spare tire sits upright at the front of the car. It's a 1300 if that helps at all. Sorry haven't learnt much about the vehicles yet to know what I'm talking about!

OK - you have a standard beetle.
ie - beam front and and i am guessing ball joints. Not King and Link pin.

2 ways to lower it.

Easiest would be dropped spindles. But that widens the track. Rod Penrose is selling some in Parts section at the moment.

Other way is a lowered adjustable beam. Doesnt widen track. More work though.

Have forward vision and pick the wheels you want to run.

Then design around that.

Stocky rims are gonna be the go, so yeah, what every system works best. Work and price dont matter TOO much, just the best end result

How much would the track be widened by with drop spindles? I saw some on airkewld.com but very vague on the drop they offer. So I don't need both drop spindles and ajustable beams? My friend owns mrcustoms.com.au and is begging me to airbag it!

I "think" it is 1/2 per side??

Dunno - i am a Super dubber. ie struts only

I think you can get a couple of inches in a beam (2 1/2"??) and the same in spindles
total say 5"

You can also narrow the beam to compensate for the track width.

As i say... dunno the fact...struts are easier 😀
