Master Cylinders

I was going to run disc brakes up front with type 3 drums on the rear.

I have since decided to go 4 wheel disc brakes. am interested though if there are any benefits or difference apart from the obvious between the two master cylinders pictured.

the second picture (on the bottom) is what i currently have. the first (on top) is what i dont have.

- should i have the first pictured master cylinder if i want to run 4 wheel discs? or does it not matter?

- why is there 2 outlets for the rear on the master cylinder that i dont have? are they seperately run solid brake lines to each rear brake?

help is greatly appreciated

the top one looks like the common one used in Australia...

there are two front brake pipes and the single rear brake pipe
plus Two brake lights...

from memory...

two brake lights - one at the front and one at the rear of the master cylinder would make sense. i would imagine you would only need one light sender though.

is it possible in that case to run 2 hard brake lines to the rear? or is this unecessary?!

not necesary.......

look at getting a kombi master too, they are bigger internally?.........effectively more brake travel with less foot effort/movement? (edit~whatever!, waste of time IMHO)

i'm running late beetle master (two front lines) and that works fine with four discs......others have required bias adjusters with their conversions

P.C enough??🤪

As far as I know increasing the ID of the master cylinder does not decrease the foot effort required. All it does is decrease the pedal travel required. If you want to increase the brake pressure you need larger ID slave cylinders or a brake booster.

Increased ID of master cylinder increases pedal effort and reduces travel.

To reduce effort you would have to change the pedal fulcrum point or smaller ID master. Both of these methods increase pedal travel distance.
