semi-auto / manual engine differences

Hi. A friends semi-auto 1500sp bug has dropped a bearing. I have a 1600dp (from a manual) to put in but need to make sure I've got the conversion covered.

The differences I know of are:
1. oil pump (presumably just swap the pump off the auto)
2. manifold - need a large (1/2 inch) vacuum pipe attachment on the T piece of the manifold

anything else?
Was there ever a dual-port manifold with the semi-auto pipe fitting, or do I just drill and weld a pipe onto the standard (3-piece) manifold. Current manifold is the single piece single-port type.

Alternatively, does anyone have an OK semi-auto engine that they could bear to part with?

Thanks a lot.
Steve

Some of the kombi dual port centre pieces had a vacuum take off (brake booster).
IRCC the carb is different but I think you can drill out the correct vacuum port and put the fitting in.
You should also check if there were different pumps for the flat or dished cams.

You will need to change the flywheel or drive plate and adjust the end float

apart from the dual oil ATF pump,
the flywheel needs to be removed and the flexplate
bolted on...
You will need to replace the torque converter seal...

best to replace the front engine oil seal
and the o ring in the flexplate....

You will need to make up a flexplate removal tool...
to take off the flexplate and bolt it to the 1600 twin port..
Yes 1600 twin port engines did have the vacuum pipe off the inlet manifold..

to get it going, put the small control valve hose onto the vacuum advance pipe...
it may thump into gear...
You could take the correct pipe off the 1500 carby and drill a hole in the late carby and push the pipe in..

You will need to drain the ATF and renew it...

cheers

Bullyboy,
The 1500 uses a flat cam semi-auto pump, the twin ports use a dished cam semi-auto pump. I haven't got my SP pump from the states yet so can't tell you if the feed/supply holes line up.

You could weld a 12mm OD pipe fitting to a standard TP manifold set up, carby must be done (assuming you're getting a 34 Pict 3 from somewhere) as others have said.

As Lee has mentioned, getting the flex plate off/on isn't for the faint of heart.

Lastly, if there are no ATF leaks from around the converter, don't pull the torque converter off the gearbox or you'll be replacing the seal.

PS. I see you're in Sydney. Bajachris88 (QLD) was offloading his semi-auto stuff a while back.

Thanks all. It was looking all too easy...now it's looking a bit too hard. I think I'll chase down a semi-auto engine.

Thanks for your help.

Hi

I use a piece of steel bar welded to an old pulley to undo the flywheel on auto bugs. Some 1600 used the 3 bolt cam and if it has an after market cam it will be 3 bolt.
