Does anyone know the difference in the length of a generator and an alternator style fuel pump pushrod? I am trying to work out which type of pump is in my car. It is a 1600 twin port.

A generator one measures 108mm according to the ruler on my desk here.

It would have to be if the pushrod was a different length surely.

I have looked at the pictures of the spacers on classic vee dubs web site and there were two different types, the type mine has and one for 53-61. I think the foot that the pushrods move are in different positions and thats why the different length rods are needed.

the bakolite flange is the same for all 40hp-1600
only diff is crappy replacement ones are black and original are brown
the alternator rod is 100mm and genny style is 108
hope this helps

Homer,
Joel has the numbers. It is the pivot pin height in the fuel pump casting that is changed for the shorter pushrod.

Be sure and measure. I got an alternator pump supplied with a gennie pushrod.

yeah make sure u have the right rod
the day after i bought my yellow 74 1300(alternator) the fuel pump died
i chucked on a spare genny pump i had without changing the rod and spent hours kicking and screaming looking for fuel blockages that didnt exist cos i had no pressure
