Can someone please tell me how I access the engine mounts on my 71 beetle? I'm sure they have bitten the dust as the amount of engine vibration is unbearable. I just can't seem to find them to have a closer inspection before i order my replacements. Any link to a step by step run thru would be appreciated too.

Well there are 2 seta really

The main ones are in the cradle that joins the 2 horns and bolt to the base of the bell housing.
Your motor bolts to the bell housing

The other front engine mount is at the front nose cone ot the transmission / gear box.

If you jack the car up and put it on stands you should be able to see the cradle and the mounts.
But to change them you need to get to the insode of the bell housing

Sorry - motor is coming out

What ever

Yeah! And if the front mount is buggered, the geabox will be coming out.

I reckon that the first mechanic who crawled under a Kubelwagen in a World War II battlefield to change the engine and gearbox mounts must have spat the dummy big time. To have to remove the engine and gearbox and to need to split them is just plain stupid. It wasn't corrected until the last series of the type 3s in the late 1960s.

I know. I had to do just that in a caravan park in Alice Springs on a stinking hot day in full sun.
