Owned now since roughly the Campout in Feburary, when JIMGOW shat it's pants, the HN(Hotty Notch) has been in the garage ever since really..
The Notch is the third VW I currently own, and possibly the best. For those that haven't been in a Type 3, they are far more quiet than a Beetle, as well as way more room and interior space, including TWO boots.
Anthony(BLKBUG) did a great job with this car, and most of the work and condition can be attributed to him, so by no means can I take the credit for it. Once I got it, then yeah, whack some more accessories on it from the Beetle or that I had collected, and bingo, cruise it.
The best part is the originallity of the car combined with the ride height and accessories, resulting in something quite different, and something that is quite individual at this stage.

Splines all round, so lowering not a problem, but the good fellas down at Vollkommen Art perfected the ride height, as well as the tail lights(clear).
Parts, no dramas yet, but they are still 35 odd years old, like Beetles, but just not as many made of course.

Totally agree with you about the plusses of owning a TIII (I have owned 4 of'em!). She's very nice, the factory got it so right with the Notch didn't they? Jst lay'em down and your set...Well maybe some more hourse power would be the go! Have you checkout Aarons SquarePanel in the latest Fast Fours & Rotaries Mag? Still go the bug?

Jim lov yer car its so cool.
With it being so low do you have problems with bump stear or is that only bettles. I don't now alot about suspention and I want to lower mine but its my daily driver. Don't want to make it a handfull to drive in trafic. Any advice would be great.

Steers beautifully. Uhh... I do have minor problems with bottoming out the suspension mounts when hitting a pothole..
Bump steer.. hmm.. not sure exactly what your definition of that term is.. Hope this helps.

After numerous days of thought of how the dummy spots were to be applied, today was the day of climax.
And well... I have to say it... I drilled into the panels. It was like drilling into my soul.. 🙂
A bit of a pain in the ass I must say. Where they are placed, is on the guards. There was thought of the bonnet, and even the sill of the front windscreen, but this was best.

Evaporative airconditioning, water into it, air blows through with car speed, air cooled by water, cool air comes in..
No fans. Fans are available aftermarket, but not in the times.

Had my whitewalls put on 356 chromies today and put on my Notch.. The offset was about an inch different, which I thought have considered, and thus pushing the wheels closer to the guards by about an inch.. The results...
The rear was left with about 1-2mm between whitewall and the gaurd.. Not enough. One bump and it would chew through the whitewall.. Not nice.
The front wasn't too bad.. on an empty tank of fuel.. Had to three point turn my way out of the servo.. 🙂
Anyway, the look is cool, but it can't stay unfortunetly..

Not available for a late type3.You can get clear front indicators for a late one.Otherwise you got the ugly lights.But you have irs and discbrakes up front.

You should roll you guards Jim, then have them touched up. They'll be virtually un-noticable unless you're looking for them

Yeah.. Prefer to keep it as close to original as possible, with reversable changes only. Thats why those dummy spots hurt so much..

Yeah, well changing guards is one of the simplest jobs you'll ever have to do. Plus the driveabiliy bonuses of it now it's slammed is well worth it.
And trust me, you won't be able to tell they're rolled.:thumb

Awsome! Saw it for the first time at the nats this year, probably spent half my time drooling over this one car!
Shame about the 356 wheels. I've got the same problem with the BRMs on my square. I rolled the guards & still only have about 3mm clearance. Looks like short axels for me too! I reckon I'll have to go lower after seeing the notch though!!

I have the same problem with those rims there too.. Unforunetly most wheels are setup for Beetle offsets, BRM's, 356's and the Beetle rims I have on there(obviously) so they are a touch wider in the end...
I was thinking of getting an inch taken out of the front rims, making them 3.5 inch, but giving me a little more turning circle... dunno.

YEah man, Now your talking. And you can get your rear ones offset changed, (ever so slightly!) so it wont be so close to the guards.

They are dummy spotlights. Its a hot rod touch, thats all... they don't work, all looks!! 🙂

As I was saying to you on that Chapel St cruise dude, not a great deal hey..
Uhh.. Got some Happich trim rings, 7L fuel tank for the spare wheel, and not too much else that would fit Notches.. Hording a little bit of Beetle crap for my next Beetle down the road, but most of my Beetle stuff that will fit on the Notch is on there already! That stuff is German, so it wouldn't be cheap, but message me if you are interested, but it probably isn't what you are after..

Yeah, I found it in Bendigo at the swap meet.. But bought it and never thought that much of it.. So I gave it to BLKBUG and he put it on Nellie.. Guess I just inherited it..
