Two Kombi Movies

Here are two short films (7 mins) that feature Kombis.

Komboom
Kompork

They were both created for a film competition and were made start to finish in 24 hours (those dem rulez). Both won awards on the night.

Cheers,

Shimmie.

well I realise that the burning bus aint the cruising bus, but really, I hope they got decent prize money, what a total waste of money for a very ordinary effort, I hope they rememberered to pay the royalties on the sound track.

Mate, thats a really harsh response.

1. No prize money. Actually Kompork got us $300. But Komboom was nothing.
2. well done on picking the crusing vs burning bus. Very few people actually pick that up that they were different. Especially on first watch.
3. Wasn't that much of a waste of money. The burnt Kombi was on the way to the wreckers anyway. And we stripped of the motor, some of the windows, and a bunch of other odds and ends first.
4. Ordinary effort? You got high expectations. The 500 festival attendees voted them both the best film for each of the last two years.
5. Not bad for a bunch of 3 guys from the Noosa Kombi Club who've never made a film before.

Have you made any films? It ain't easy. And especially in 24 hours!

One last thing...

We didn't need to pay royalties because it was covered by the festival (like you can play any music in a cafe).

But it probably shouldn't be on YouTube.

The sound track to KomPork was all original by another Kombi owner Mick (also from the Noosa Kombi Club).

shimmie ·

We're starting to plan for the next movie... anyone got any cool concepts for us?

The requirements are
- its got to be called Kom-something
- Its got to feature one or more Kombis as central to the plot
- Its a short film of 7 minutes max so can't be too involved

Someone suggested Kombat - a Blackhawk Down deal where Kombies take a bunch of soldiers into a battle where they all get trapped and most die, but a another Kombi comes and saves them.

Also Kombot - a robot kombi invasion like close encounters.

Cheers,

Shimmie.

p.s. The orange Kombi from Komboom is for sale on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250197209408

hey, you wouldnt happen to have any photos of the burnt kombi would you? looks alot like it may have been my old girl. would be a fitting end to it.

I liked Komboom. looked a little familiar (like some of my travels I mean).

No, haven't got any pics. I think it was cream colored. We just painted one side red 5 minutes before the shoot to make it look right.

The burnt out shell sat behind the Doonan Rural Fire Station for about a year after before they took it to the dump. People kept going back to it to get bits.

We had to push it down the main road from the garage to the fire station for the shoot. There were 5 guys pushing and two directing traffic - or more like waving people out of the way. Cars were honking something crazy at us.

Thanks for the feedback,

Shimmie.

OK, cool, in the vid it looked more of a burnt orange (on my screen anyway) and looked vaguely like it could have been a camper with a panel rear window, same as mine was.
