unleaded fuel

Hi . Does the unleaded fuel wear out the engine quicker in a old engine that hasnt been converted over.DO Some people still use the additive in new engines. thanks tim

VWCOOL ·

Old cast-iron headed engines without hardened valve seats or inserts (like old 1970s Holdens) will wear thier valve seats when run on unleaded; the lead oxide was like a 'talcum powder' between the valves and the head. Additive is required in these engines.

Veedubs have alloy heads with a hard valve seat insert so do not require additive - they can run on ULP

Leaded fuel has not been available since about 2001
