I used to use a 500SE Merc as my "boat ute" - been known to tie 5 metre lengths of timber over the top and down to the chassis at each end (no roof rack and no photos). I got sick of welding a new boot in every 18 months or so and when the second gearbox said "I ain't towing any more boats" I gave it to the wrecker.
