Hi folks, please keep an eye out for my car, stolen last night Friday 18th from Manly. Standard beetle, grey interior, Golde steel sunroof, baby seat in the back.

Hope it turns up unharmed up the road somewhere.

Thanks

Hi - nothing that springs to mind, just an honest low mileage original bug - nothing special or different on it apart from the Golde 'roof of course.

- I'll put pics up, can't now, it's an Aussie standard bug so blade bumpers, standard wheels & hubcaps, ruby red..

Cheers all for support.

68AutoBug ·

An Australian made Beetle with a Golde sunroof would be VERY rare...

does it have an interior light?
door switches??
glovebox lid?
chromed hubcaps?
chrome strips??
chrome strip on running boards??

I'll keep a lookout up here,
but it would probably be moved under cover...

unless an idiot stole it....
hopefully one did....
and has left it somewhere....

Best wishes

Lee

you've got another set of eyes in north west.
hope someone finds it... and it's not trashed.
best wishes dude

Joel ·

best of luck, hope it turns up unharmed
on a positive note tho thats a deluxe not a standard
someones just put pre 61 bumpers on it
stds in 64 didnt have dash trim, fuel gauge, grab handle glovebox lid, full headliner, chrome bonnet trim etc

Oh really? Oh.. - it doesnt have an interior light though, I just thought it was standard with that clue.

simoninoz ·

.. will be mentioned in the Manly Daily either tomorrow or Wednesday, my sister went down and asked them to put it in, made a bit of a fuss, damsel in distress etc. The photographer took a pic of them in the street where it was taken - he say's they (her and my 18 month old neice) must be big VW fans, my sister hadn't realised that they were both wearng splitty t-shirts haha

Joel ·

it was only the first early standards that didnt have int lights
by 64 the realised even pov pak beetles needed the int light
have a feel around above the B pillar its prob got the hole under the headliner
even by 66 the had started fitting a glovebox lid to them
an old science teacher at school had a 65 standard plus a mate had a 64 and a 66 standards

VWFREAK ·

Seems to be a fair few vw going missing over the last few months.

Scum bags.

simoninoz ·

Thanks to this story in the local paper today two council workers found it in a car park not far out of Manly, the read the story before they started a job and the car was opposite them

No major damage, safe and sound now. Thanks everyone for your vigilance

Well done Manly Daily and Up the Workers : )

bugboymatt ·

Mate, thats great news. Congrats. Kate must be happy to have it back.

Robo ·

Good to hear the happy ending. No damage?
Rob...

rufbug ·

great result
was she dumped and left about.
i liked the car, i think i have seen this one once for sale not so long ago, i'm sure it was that one, might of only been early last year! i wanted to buy.......but the missus. unless there are two.

happy driving.

simoninoz ·

Thanks for best wishes everyone, yeah my sister is over the moon, poor thing she's been in the wars lately and we didn't need this on top of it. As for the car it will be getting an engine lock and kill switch/immobilser - it's usually garaged and never left out but I'm not taking chances with any of my vehicles now. There isn't visible damage from entry, must have been started with a screwdriver and the theif took the coil/dizzy lead and vac advance pipe for some reason - it probably went a mile and was abandoned in the corner of this carpark not visible from the road. Nothing was stolen out of it, babyseat, sunnies all there. Phew..

68AutoBug ·

Wow talk about Lucky..

Any Damage?

looks like an alarm is the way to go..

or keep the steering wheel under the bed... lol

there were the standards with painted lines where the chrome strips went,
painted hubcaps and bumpers..
no glove box lid or interior light or even holes where the door switches go..
only headling in the centre , no clips near the door to attach the trim... I looked at one recently..

there was the CUSTOM later , which had No overriders as the bumpers were stainless steel which is slightly different
to chrome... it still had the headling only in the centre..

I saw a standard German 68 beetle once and it had the large glass but early headlamps and tail lamps.
the 1/4 window chrome was painted white as was the front blinker tops..

below the rear window was painted in all of them..

Anyway, glad to hear a happy ending...

thats about the 4th or 5th one thats happened that way maybe people who have never driven a VW just want to go for a short ride and then dump the car

good news

type3lover ·

Good to hear man.

Craig Torrens ·

wouldn't mind stealing KATE !!😂😂

1303Steve ·

Hi

Your very lucky, what a scare. If your car has a fuel tank reserve lever there is a 1/2 way point were it cuts the fuel flow off, good anti theft device, ask me how I know.

Steve
because you were dumb and the car stopped ?

1303Steve ·

Your a mind reader Craig, I just got a shiver up my spine

xornge666x ·

Good to hear its back and all good.

It is fairly easy to start an early car, by bridging a wire to the coil, and either shorting the starter (not so easy on a VW!) or hot wiring..
I have always popped my rotor button out when I parked in the city in Melbourne, as most people trying to steal a car don't carry one of those for what ever they come accross.
I do the same thing here in the US now with my current car..

simoninoz ·

Craig Torrens wrote:wouldn't mind stealing KATE !!😂😂
Would a second helping be enough Craig?

🙂

squizy ·

That's great news. Looks like a top ride.

The car, the car!!!!!

Shelly ·

Did you ever get to the bottom of who stole it? I'm all for the happy ending but would be good to know they found the person responsible!
