THE SHED: alast under way

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/67175/the-shed-alast-under-way

Midlife crisis ·

Howdy peoples.

Well after 5 months in council and other dramas with the council the shed at last.

The Bobcat and the concretor arrived 630am this morning.

By 930 the bobcat was done and the guys started to weave the magic.

It is now 4.24pm and they have just left.

It looks great.

So here are some photo's.

so a double car space out the front The SHEd will never be big enough

thats was a quick days work there a bit of room on the down side to store all those projects awainting there turn in the shed

looks good

aussiebaja ·

looks good mate ,does this mean you can hide all your gear now and keep the council and whinging neibours off ya back now ?

ancientbugger ·

You won't know how you managed beforehand once all that's done. In the long run that ba#*ard neighbour has done you a favour. It's made your life easier and although you've had to put your hand in your pocket your house value would've gone up!

Notch Nut ·

Hope you buried the whingeing coot in the foundations.
Damn, that shed is the size of my back yard!! 😵‍💫

Andy ·

Sweet. Looks like you need to get a few more VW's to fill it up. Hope you can stack the mtwo high inside 🙂

Brad ·

what size is it going to be ?

Matt Ryan ·

6:30 am start, ........ That should have stuck it up the whingeing neighbour, good stuff.

Regards,

Matt.

65busser ·

Nice slab.

donn ·

Need to know, in your area does the council need to do an inspection before concrete goes in, damned good organising if they do.

Midlife crisis ·

Thanks everyone.

The shed is 7.6 x6m and the carport is 6x6m which is a total area of 13.6m x6m

Marc

Midlife crisis ·

Hi again

The council does not have to inspected before the concrete is poured. From what I understand because it is a shed no inspection is needed.

Stacking 2 high what a great idea. Hmmmm !!!!!

Very lucky to have a good sized backyard, it is an old area so the block sizes are very good.

Working on the cars will be a lot better, lots of shade, plus we have a nice area for BBQ's as well. We decided to spend the money because it makes it easier to work on the cars and improves the house value. Well worth it I think!

At least now I can work on the cars without next door saying I am running a business and I can hide some stuff in there as well.😁

We were thinking way back in May when we ordered the shed which way to go 13.6 m shed or half and half, she who must be obeyed wanted the carport, I liked the idea as well it gives you a shady area to work as well as in the shed.

The guys did a great job! There were only two blokes doing all the concreting, so they worked very hard.
The plan is that the cars in waiting will go down the side of the carport and won't be seen except by the guy behind us, who often has a chat over the fence about what we are working on.

The slab is quite thick around all edges and at the join between the carport and the shed. It is 250mm thick and 350mm wide on the edges and the rest is 110mm thick with a 5mm fall from the centre to the edges on all of the slab and a brush finish.

Vw54 you are right by the time I put everything in it I will be screaming for a bigger shed.😁😁😁

Hmmmmmm front yard is empty............ Kaaaaaattthhhhhhh!!
😂 😂

66deluxe ·

Good to see the shed started, you know what makes me laugh is that getting your shed built and having a skidsteer in at 630 am and the cement truck making a lot of noise, probably upset the neighbour too, some neighbours need to relax and keep their nose out of other peoples business.

Damo.

Midlife crisis ·

Your dead right Damo.

I am hoping that when they come to erect the shed itself they make a lot of noise!!!!!!.

We are hoping that they will start sometime next week and Titian said it should only 2 or 3 day to erect.

Marc

56astro ·

Good size shed. 👍

Why is it so far from the rear boundary?

Midlife crisis ·

Howdy
the main sewer line runs 2 m from the fence line from left to right in the picture and you can't build within 2m of the pipe so it had to be 4m of the fence line.

We were going to put it closer to the fence but can't.

Marc

ian.mezz ·

hmmm it needs to be a bit bigger to fit MORE vw in 😂

Midlife crisis ·

Ok here's an up date.

they started on putting the shed together today, hopefully by friday it will finished.

Pumba ·

Is that a workcover approved lead stand 😂😂😂.

Midlife crisis ·

Yes and cost me mega bucks to get it approved😂

OZ Towdster ·

I bet it looks a little wetter than that now , looking good though and whens the shed warming party

Tazz ·

Looking good Marc... I wanna know how you stopped the dub nuts from christening the nice new concrete.

Tazz

Kuchster ·

Ive actually started my own problems with the council as im in the process of organising an approx 18m x 8m shed/garage.

Will take a while and most likely cost a bit but will be well worth it when its done.

Kuch

Midlife crisis ·

Well Tazz there was talk of having a burnout contest to mark out the circle for the chopper to land.

Shed warming BBQ will be after Easter.

Marc

shaihulud ·

Here in WA it's legal to build an open carport type structure over the sewer easement as long as you get permission from the sewerage authority.

I had a similar situation with my shed. I had to keep the permanent structure away from the sewerage easement, but I could build an open car port with a non-poured concrete floor over the easement.

I submitted plans for mine to the council with a nice big rubber stamp from the water board and a reciept for the fee and they permitted it.

The water boards attitude is if you build a permitted structure over the easement and they need access to work on the pipes, then any damage that they do to your building is your problem and no compensation will be paid to you.

Midlife crisis ·

hey kuch

Good luck, doing anything with Councils is not fun, They like to show how much they can make you bow to get what you want..

Marc

donn ·

Now here's a hint for anybody planning a shed, talk to the council first, front up and ask for the inspector for your area or if there is no particular inspector ask for the top dog,(probably don't say dog). Talk to them, tell them you just "want to do the right thing but this is what I want because.............." do some groveling and suck some r's, makes them feel important and that you are their newest best friend. If you have them on your side they make it less hard for you and will often suggest ways of doing "the right thing" so that you get what you want. I can tell you that all this is learned from experience.

donn ·

Love the shed, looks like just one bloke constructing it, likes to take it easy too by the look of that lifter he is using on the truss.

Midlife crisis ·

yep one bloke doing it.

he is hoping to finish tomorrow and with help from a mate of his to put the double roller door up on Saturday morning.

This is where it is up to tonight where he is standing he has up the truss that goes there.

koolkarmakombi ·

Now all you need is to rattlegun every bolt a dozen or so times a night on the bad neighbours side....

Midlife crisis ·

Now I never thought of that 👍👍👍👍👍

Thats a great Idea.

Marc

Midlife crisis ·

Gotta get the baja ready for Levuka and changing tyres comes under maintenance......so I am not technically sure how often I may have to take the tyres off and put them on over the next couple of weeks. But rest assured, the rattle gun will be working dead on 7 (I think that is the time you can start making noise during the week) changing those tyres. Oh and don't forget the droning noise of the air compressor going on and off, and anything else we can think of........... Hmmmm have shelves and work benches to assemble to go in garage....what tools can I use to assemble them in the carport. Got an air drill for Christmas.........haven't tried it out yet......may have to use it for those shelves etc.

Mwhahahahahahahahaha😎

dangerous ·

Any new progress shots Marc?
Gotta love a new shed!

Midlife crisis ·

They are working today, they have squared it up this morning and have done chemsets for the carport uprigth.

So hopefully this arvo will have some more pics.

I am hanging out for them to finish.

Marc

mackaymanx ·

I hate this thread😬 Makes me miss the 6m X 9m shed I had at my old place😢🙁😢

Midlife crisis ·

hey mackaymanx

If it will make you feel better I can send you a picture of the shed when it finished and you can hang it on you ceiling and it will be the last thing you before you go to sleep, then you will have nice dreams.😂😂😂😂😂

Marc

ElusiveStranger ·

Excuse me for asking... how much does that sort of thing cost to do over there?

Cheers.

Midlife crisis ·

Howdy ElusiveStranger

With all Council fees from start to finish with them handing me the keys at the end a grand total of ..........................$15650.00

Marc

h ·

Thanks for that Marc.
I'm looking at building a double garage (6 x 6 m) in blockwork over here (UK). The estimate's around the same.
That looks a nice & easy solution.

Will be nice having somewhere dry to work where you don't have to put your tools away every time 🙂

Cheers
Steve

donn ·

blockwork construction would cost a bloody lot more than that here, steel is the most cost effective option in the land of oz

Midlife crisis ·

Howdy people here are the latest photo's of the build.

With all the rain it's been a bit slow lately.

More pics

Andy ·

Looking great, nothing like a shed full of VW's 🙂

Midlife crisis ·

Thats kool Andy, looks like we both need to get some shed wenches😏😏😏

Marc

ElusiveStranger ·

Looking good.
Do you insulate it to stop the heat/cold/condensation?

Andy ·

Hehe,
sounds like a great idea 🙂
Mine is 7m wide and comfortably fit's the beetle, type 3 and kombi side by side, can only get two out at a time though 🤪
I put it up myself, all the roof was put on from the roof rack of the kombi 🤓
I was very glad I put hte insulation under the roof sheets though!

robnjo ·

Great pics marc, hope you guys are all well.
just got my Titan finished last week and a mate came over and epoxy coated the floor yesterday.
we had to have our shed 3.5m off the back fence, 1st told 2m then a week later came and said "sorry mate 3.5m" ...*%#@$ ,Councils❓

Midlife crisis ·

Hey Rob that's good yours is done. They say mine should be done by Tuesday if the rain stops.

What is the name of the stuff you used for the floor? and where did you get it from?

Is it slippery when it gets wet?

We are going to insulate it with Pink bats or something like that.

Marc

robnjo ·

a mate does this sort of thing, his called Future Floors...seamless epoxy coatings...
www.futurefloors.net.au
it does get slippery but the pros far weigh out the cons🤓
we even put a dunny pipe in the back corner, which might show in one of the pics....

Midlife crisis ·

Ok peoples the roof is on YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Should be all done by tomorrow<

here are some pics

Marc

Notch Nut ·

Looks the goods.👍

Jealousy is a curse😀
- Adam

Midlife crisis ·

Thanks

We are looking forward to having a family BBQ in the carport this weekend to break it in.😎😎

Marc

Andy ·

Family BBQ in the carport? There won't be room for all the type 3's will there? 🙂
Looking great!!

I put an industrial floor paint on the floor in mine (don;t remember the brand). Not as good as the epoxy, but does stop oil soaking in (not that my VW's leak oil...) Has stood up well so far. I went with a "brushed finish" on the concrete (drag a broom over concrete just before it cures). Makes it a bit harder to sweep, but not slippery at all when wet.

👍

Midlife crisis ·

Yeah I went with the brush finish aswell. When I do the floor there is some stuff that you put in the paint about the size of sand that makes it non slip.

Marc

Midlife crisis ·

At last the shed is finished.
But while I was not looking a young lady (Bethany) sneaked inside to get out of the rain.

Marc

Midlife crisis ·

I have some more pics but I keep get a error with "suffusion of yellow."

Will try again later

Marc

syncropro ·

Hey, she's tilted the shed.....😂

Seriously, Congratulations, bet your happy with that.

Midlife crisis ·

Yep very happy

Midlife crisis ·

Ahh thats who's in the shed

being Quiet hiding in the corner won't help I see you

Andy ·

Midlife crisis wrote:Yeah I went with the brush finish aswell. When I do the floor there is some stuff that you put in the paint about the size of sand that makes it non slip.
Marc
I'd look into that a little more serious before going ahead. We had that done at work years ago (glass beads added to an epoxy paint). Was done professionally but was crap. The worst part is it was impossible to clean unless you want to gerni it regularly. It's also affects the paint sticking as good as it could.
I'd recommened a good paint (or epoxy if funds allows), keep it clean and dry and slipping will not be an issue.

Keep these pics!! The shed won't stay that empty for long!! 🙅

ElusiveStranger ·

Marc, that's looking good fella.
I'd love something that size & quick to construct!

Midlife crisis ·

It was easy to build, I just sat a watched them do all the work👍
