New car - Tdi New Beetle??

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/67334/new-car-tdi-new-beetle

Bizarre ·

Mentioned to the Mrs it was time for a new car.
Went off leavinf her with the VW web site and the prints for Golfs and Polos

Came home and she is dead set keen on a tubo diesel new beetle

Any one got any comments??

i half like the looks - as long as they have 17"s.
Driven Golf 1.9s and they are OK.
Prefer a 2.0 Tdi Golf - but a happy Mrs counts for more.
For some reason she thought they were dearer than Golfs. That is why she never mentioned it before

People will often bag the new beetle and say that it is too expensive for what you get, too slow and that it's generally just a bit too boring and a bit cartoonish ....... I say thats a load of rubbish, they are fantastic cars!!!! Mine is the 2.0 cabrio so its now a little older but it runs like a dream. I have heard from a few people that the TDI ones are also very good.

Take it for a drive and see what you think, thats the only way to make up your mind.

P.S ..... Don't go 17's ...... 19's are better !!!!

I read in a rcent Euro car mag that VW is seriously considering redisigning the new beetle due to lack of sales in the US and putting the engine in the back again, yes please just like the new VW UP, also in same article Porsche and VW getting together to make a new mid engined sportscar, hope its like the boxster with a flat 4 i would have one.

Can anyone tell me if the mags on a NB are the same as Golf mags??
Golf IV or Golf V???

Like the Tdi comes with steel wheels

you can pick up 16" Golf Mk V mag wheels for $500-$700 incl new tyres.

just a bit cheaper than ticking the option box.

We have the Audi RS4 mags or copies of the RS4 mags on ours, So i think there is a little bit of range for them out there.
As for driving them. Jace swears by them after driving a few of all the different model VW's at his old work. he likes them better then the old 1.8 Turbo beetles and tried to talk me into buying one. But there wasn't to many out there when i was looking for mine. I have had no trouble with mine since owning it and would recommend a new beetle to anyone thinking of getting one. Although mine is a 2000 model i cant believe how good it handles on the roads and how good fuel economy is with it. i manage to get around 530k's to a tank of fuel could do a little better if jace wasnt a lead foot 😂

I have a 2L TDi Eos and even with the DCG Gbox, that motor is a dream, i have also owned a 2000 and 2004 NB non turbo petrol, but the TDi absolutly fly's. The Golf/Eos/New Beetle 2L Turbo petrol goes equally well if not a bit better but the pulling power on the TDi is awsome. I have factory 18's on mine but the dealer can option yours up with factory alloys or you can go the aftermarket option too its quite easy, just choose wisely.

Like Tracy said, take it for a spin and see what you like, the fuel ecconomy on the TDi is also a big plus with me.
Good luck with it.

not 100% sure if the stud pattern is the same.. beetle pattern is 5x100 with either 38mm or 42mm offset depending upon the year you buy... believe the newies are 42mm offset.

we have these on our nbc

they are an audi RS8 replica wheel.. as the audi A8 is a different stud pattern... think it was 5x112.
aftermarket is the way to go if you want cheaper... but harder to find wheels for a beetle.
ease of fitment i would go for factory option but imho they tend to be a bit bland.

as for a tdi beetle... have only heard good things about the diesels in any vdub cars.
drive one and see what you think. good luck

Selling the Caravelle Barry?

Bizarre ·

Selling the Golf

Caravelle stays
Got to carry the kids in something

This will be the wifes new transport

I believe the Golf IV is 100 PCD and the Mk V is 112

So the beetle is probally the same as Mk IV Golf

Got to carry the kids in something.
The NB has only four seats - there's no middle rear seat. The back seat is good for little tackers, but if you have lanky teenagers, or kids who are car sick if in the back, stick with a nice new Golf. The headroom and leg room is just not so good in a NB.

thanks,

Baz, your wife will need to a lot of Kms to recoup the extra cost of the diesel engine. Do what I did and get a new GTI (or GT), game over.

h ·

me also likes a tdi.. but only if thay came in a soft top..
btw.. do they come in a soft top?
you will have a happy missus and you will be getting heaps of extra attention no doubt.. 😁

are they seriously the same $$$? 🤪

can I just say, the extra you might pay for a TDi, might be for your contribution to the environment. 😉

on the subject of diesels, i've got the pug 2l HDi and I never want to own a petrol daily driver again. it's simply fantastic. drive it like a nanna and it runs on the smell of an oily rag, stomp on it and it's as quick as a big 6 minus the fuel bill. once you go an oiler, you'll never go back. 👍

blutopless2 ·

no..not the same price...
beetle tdi is 28490 + extras
gti 3dr 38490 + extras
gti 5dr 39990 + extras

^ doesn't look like a hard decision to me. $10k less and a bit more torque than the GTi from memory.

I know it's a different model but my TDi Eos was about $1500 cheaper than the Turbo petrol Eos, go figure..... But Pete you are right the TDi is awsome.

2.0 TDI = 103 kw @ 4000 rpm
2.0T FSI = 147 kw @ 5100-6000 rpm

2.0 TDI = 320 Nm @ 1750-2500 rpm
2.0T FSI = 280 Nm @ 1800-5000 rpm
