The Bigfella ·
Looks spot on to me.

Nah that yellow with the purple trace is definately wrong.......🤪
ratbug ·
Hi Ian, I am hoping to finish off most of my subie wiring today in the buggy. If you want to come have a look, i'm in thornton.
Craig Torrens ·
the wire in the bottom right of the 1st pic will need to be 30mm longer to clear the turbo................JVL should be able to help 😀

You should be able to fund the conversion with scrap copper.

You say your in Thornton/New Castle.... This doesn't happen to be in Indiana, USA is it? Please shoot me an email if so: badvw68@hotmail.com Thanks..
The Bigfella ·
So - did you get it going?
We went through this a couple of months back. Can help if you have any specific questions.
ian.mezz ·
a fare way off from getting it going , just getting wires sorted i will go and check out ratbug soon to see if mine looks the same
thanks ianmezz
The Bigfella ·
As I recall it, most of the wires needed are in the first two plugs - only one or two in the third
ian.mezz ·
mine has 6 plugs at the computer🤪🤪 2 big green ones not pluged in, 4 yellow ones pluged in and the green ones do fit if you take two yellow out🤪
The Bigfella ·
ahhh - I read the triple plugs comment in your first post and was thinking you had a three plug ecu - I must read slower
ian.mezz ·
Yer thats what i mean, most people say you only use two plugs🤪
The Bigfella ·
Which engine is it?
ian.mezz ·
I got a few more bits, Motor ,adaptor and starter
checking that the timing belt was replaced as told😎
Making sure the starter and flywheel all work fine, starter winding over great
now will it fit🤪🤪
rocknrob ·
yer a brave man🤪
ian.mezz ·
more bits how to fit this??? 😂
ian.mezz ·
hellbugged ·

ian.mezz ·
Dumone
Its just going to be a daily driver . just something for Rose to drive to the shops. 😂
rocknrob ·

ratbug ·

rose ·
Wait until I take it for a proper run. But I will get into trouble if I break something lol.
The yellow smiley enjoyed it 😂😂
That was Ian's girly effort of a test run.
hellbugged ·
nice stuff Ian
ian.mezz ·
1303Steve wrote:C'mon Ian we want to see smoky 165s
C'mon Steve do you know how much those 165 cost me, 😂
I dont have a money tree in my back yard like you😂
1303Steve ·
Hi
Ian I have few old cross plies I could lend you if money is tight.
Steve
ian.mezz ·
the exhaust i need to trim the down pipe off a bit
ian.mezz ·
Its working fine , I may have to open the front when the weather warms up.
hellbugged ·
😂......mate that exhaust is gold👍👍
ian.mezz ·
ian.mezz ·
Ive been drag racing 1/8 mile
I got up to the second round .
Up against the black hot rod and I had a breakout
A 9.46 on a 9.49 dial in the speed 123.69klm
The super bug ej20t full of fuel 941kgs ,plus me 88kgs. I left everything in it eg. spare wheel seats and jack etc
Baja Wes ·
I ran your numbers through my Excel dyno. The 124kph speed seems to match your car for a stock EJ20T in about 1050kg. But the ET is slow, you should be just under 9s. What was your 60ft time? Do you have times for intermediate distances?
Good to see you out having fun anyway 🙂

Yeah i wasnt using much throttle at the start, just enough to get me off the line them i floored it.No wheel spin.
Baja Wes ·
Ok, that explains it then 🙂
Jak Rizzo ·
U should be heaps quicker than that ian. Mine runs 8.3 for the 1/8th & it's 1020kg without me in it. & thats taking it easy off the line with no wheelspin. Only 8psi boost too.
Drop in on the deck & come out on the track, it's so much fun doing 200+kph in your bug. Straight line stuff is only exciting for a few seconds.
regards
Jak

I imagine if my vw would go forward on 2nd gear change and not up it would be a bit quicker lol 😂
Jak Rizzo ·
can u see over the bonnet when it does that? LOL
Jak
GTMac ·
What a laugh. I love how the guy at the drags says its nice of you to get out here and just use your car. Watched his comments I think after your first run. 😂
And I hear there is a bounty on your head Ian from many of the redneck V8 ute drivers.
I remember running 165's when I first did my conversion, that wasnt so much the problem, it was the stock brakes and suspension.
What do those 1/8 mile times equate to 1/4 mile time?
pab10 ·
HI!
I have some question:
Where I can find the adapter for engine?
What kind of gearbox do you use?
Thanks!
Euro_67 ·
Your exhaust is simply a work of art, very clever indeed. Great effort at the drags too, no burn outs, just surprise the shit out of them off the line ! it can only get better from here.
ian.mezz ·

I can help you out with a fly wheel & adapter plate , if you are in need

love it Ian. looks great. LOWER THE FRONTTTTTT!!!!

you mean raise the rear end.🤪😂🤪
colonel mustard ·
Ah, no. I mean lower the front. :P
ian.mezz ·
Just got back from a weekend away having a bit of fun drag racing my bug at Gunnedah , I don't go to win any trophies just to have fun, The bug went good up and back, my drag times haven't improved but my car is still good.
two years since Ive done my Subaru conversion and I haven't even had to top up the radiator😊😊😂😂😊
colonel mustard ·
rear still sitting down in 2nd gear?
bajachris88 ·
Can understand why you would wana go gentle with a stock box. The commentary in the drags is gold... "everyday bug" hey? lol.
luv ur work.

BUT, when are you going to 'Drive it' Ian?
rose ·
Ian drove it up and back 600klms and Ian had 9 runs on the track and I had a go & gave it way to much gas at the start😂😂
It's our daily driver it gets driven every day.
I do better when I race people going to the shops in it than on the track 😂😂

Here is a vid. We need to get more vw's up there in July for the next meet 17th & 18th.
Mick058 ·
hahaa, very nice - bet the 'Common'dore thought he was away at the beginning there.
If the gearbox is still good you aint driving it hard 🙂 My box was noisy pretty quick, i wasn't dropping the clutch but i was giving it some.
Well done nonetheless
DylanTheDubber ·
Ian you have done a great job with this imfamous sleeper. The Exhaust is the funniest thing i think cause the big exhaust gives it away on other sleepers. You will have to take me for a ride one day in it That Would bee a Blastt!!!
From Dylan

you aint foolin anyone!
ian.mezz ·
just got back to Newcastle after traveling from Valla beach Volkswagen NSW weekend.
the subaru bug went great on the way up I used 7.4😀 litres per 100Ks then running around the weekend to street parade and site seeing 8.2ltr per 100Ks
don't think the fuel economy was as good on the way home on Monday as shite the wind was nearly blowing me off the road🤪😂🤪
ian.mezz ·
I have picked up some slightly used performance bits, getting ready for some track work.🤪😂🤪
Joel ·
I better see a full engineers certificate for those seats....
What was wrong with church pew/spring up the ass? they fitted in well with the cars theme
ian.mezz ·
they are ADR approved 😊 and you just bolt them in dont you🤪😂🙅
and the performance parts will only be fitted for track days.😂
Joel ·
It's no fun if you give the game away
1303Steve ·
Hi
Cant wait to see it on the track, are you going to let the woman in red drive it?
Steve
ian.mezz ·
little Vw still going good.
been driving around in the hot weather 40deg
One day will fit the A/c
Never got around to putting those racer parts on,
As I like my Nana look .🤪😂
vlad01 ·
haha very nice.
but why is everything 1/8th mile now? seems completely pointless ❓ My driveway is longer than that.
ian.mezz ·
Had the car on the dyno , doing 188 KMH
dont realy want to try that down the 1/4 mile 😊
funny Aussie weather 40 deg one day then 20deg and raining.
took the dub for a drive in the rain , it was like driving on Ice ,
not sure if all the hot weather has made the oil come up on the roads and the rain making it really greasy .
Or the fact that my tyres been on my bug since 2004
lou0060 ·
sleeper look suit you Ian......
ian.mezz ·
had my little VW since 1998/99 and finally put some wide 185 tyres on him.
ian.mezz ·
and these blue bars
.
ian.mezz ·
just need to sort the play out in steering box area.
make new cover behind back seat
seal radiator at front
and get some air/ conditioning sorted .
ian.mezz ·
and carpet and trim .😊
1303Steve ·
ian.mezz wrote:Or the fact that my tyres been on my bug since 2004
Isn't there a registration age limit for tyres?
Joel ·
The 10 year thing is just a suggestion, it depends more on tyre condition.
Dads Bontrike still has its original 1996 factory Khumo tyres on and they are still in perfect shape yet I;ve seen tyres under 10 years old perishing in the side walls that I wouldnt be caught driving on.
Ian what size bars are those?
that should stop it dragging its arse down the strip
ian.mezz ·
the old 165tyres were new in 2004 😊
26 from Topline 😊
