Hi just looking to see if anyone has a nice shifter lying around that they would like to sell. Scat, Empi, csp etc......the current shifter feels somewhat similar to a stick in a bucket of mud. Hit me up....Cheers, Rowan

probably worth doing your shift rod bush, easy job and you will be surprised by the result................then just fit a quick shift kit !.............................just an idea 馃檪

Thanks but what exactly does "doing" the shift rod bush? and just how easy is it? i have limited knowledge on these things.

read here

The "rod bushing" is the bush the rod goes through just near the gear shifter

The coupler is where it joins the gear box

Cahnge these and you shifter will feel entirley different.
Fairly easy job

Suspension and Shifter Modifications

Shift Coupler, Shift Rod Bushing, and Quick Shift Kit: Approx $20 and 3 hours work. Unless you KNOW they were changed recently, the shift coupler and shift rod bushing in your car ARE SHOT, so replace them. The quick shift kit ($7) will shorten the shift throw and make driving more fun.

Custom Shifter: 20 minutes. Be very careful when choosing a custom shifter - most are junk! Plan on spending $100 for a good one; Currently, the only shifters we recommend besides the stock shifter (with or without a quick shift) are the Scat Shifters (which we carry) and the Gene Berg shifters (these you can get one at Geneberg.com). The ORIGINAL Hurst shifters are also excellent, but they haven't been made in over 20 years, so used is the way to find these (swapmeets and Ebay).

Shift bush city limits, motor cycles not allowed in it, oh shift bush, oh shift bush

As your taking your shift rod out, cut a slot in the front of the shift rod so you can fit a Type 3 shifter and then along with a quick shift as Craig suggested you will have the best factory VW shifter known to man.

Is the process similar for a '71 Type3?

I bought a Empi a couple of months ago and havent had any trouble with it, its got a really short throw took 1 minute to install and it looks like it belongs in a automatic drag slamadoor.

but everyone here thinks there shit cause there made in china.

I think they're good, just replace the rivets with bolts on the base !!............... its always best to fix the problem (worn parts/bushes) then add the extra goodies like a shifter 馃憤

too easy...thanks guys ill get on to it and let you know how i go. Cheers
