VWFREAK Vintage Parts in conjunction with AMPCO Lubricators LLC USA, would like to offer you an exciting new opportunity on a New Old Stock item. AMPCO Lubrication systems have been around for over 60 years, providing first class engine protection to the American motoring community and now, its Australia’s turn!
The original Ampco lubricator – what is it?
The Ampco top cylinder lubricator is an oil delivery device, designed and engineered to supply a vapor-mist of lubricant to the upper cylinder section of your engine – the heat/friction/wear zone. The Ampco oil vapor-mist is introduced by manifold vacuum and distributed evenly to all cylinders to accomplish primary valve stem, guide, and seat lubrication for maximum compression, improved performance, and longer engine life. Ampco supplies instantaneous and constant auxiliary lubrication in the critical high heat and friction area before ignition occurs and during operation. Proven reliability for over 60 years.
The Problem - Valve Seat Recession
The EPA has removed 90% of the lead from fuel, which functioned as a critical lubricant between valves and valve seats. This means trouble for pre-1975 engines – auto, boat, truck, tractor – or any engine designed to run on leaded fuel. The Ampco top cylinder lubricator, along with properly compounded oil such Marvel Mystery Oil, Valve Saver, Techron, Redex, Morey’s, Lucas Conditioner etc, provides additional lubrication now absent from fuel to prevent valve seat recession. This is a condition where valve and soft seat materials adhere to each other causing the valve to erode itself up into the cylinder head. This destroys the seal of the valve to seat, causing compression loss, and reduced valve stem to rocker clearance, leading to burned exhaust valves, power loss, and ultimate failure. The Ampco top cylinder lubricator provides additional valve to seat lubrication now absent from modern gasoline.
Tomorrow’s Fuels
Modern unleaded fuel is now compounded with 10% or more ethanol, making it very hard on classic engines. Propane, CNG, and Unleaded have no lubricating properties, thus making engines that burn them very susceptible to premature valve failure, especially engines that are run under constant high loads. The Ampco top cylinder lubricator will significantly extend cylinder head life, resulting in reduced downtime and rebuild costs.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. On what engine can the lubricator be used?
The unit can be installed on any petrol, LPG, or natural gas engine. It is not recommended for engines with emission controls as there has been no research or testing done as to the effects, if any, on the catalytic converter.
2. How is the lubricator installed?
The unit comes as a complete, ready-to-install kit with a universal nozzle that installs in the intake manifold or PCV hose. Installation is simple and takes 30-45 minutes. Complete installation and operating instructions are included.
3. What type of lubricant is used?
The unit uses any lubricant approved for top cylinder lubrication, such as Marvel Mystery Oil, Valve Saver, Techron, Redex, Morey’s, Lucas Conditioner etc.
4. How often must the lubricator be filled?
750ml of lubricant will last 1600km to 2300km, depending on engine displacement, adjustment, and driving conditions.
5. Is the lubricator a replacement for leaded petrol?
Yes. It will lubricate rings, valves, valve guides, and seats.
6. Will the lubricator help a worn-out engine?
The unit is not a cure-all and is not designed to replace eroded or worn parts. It will preserve the engine, save fuel, increase compression, and eliminate detonation (pinging) by removing carbon deposits. The result will be an easier starting, quieter, smoother running engine.
7. What advantage does the Ampco vapor method have over fuel additives?
The Ampco system is a permanent method of introducing a metered, undiluted oil mist into the intake manifold, making it more efficient and effective. There is no mixing, no measuring, no guesswork, and is less costly.
