Beetle ball joint boots/rubbers

VWCOOL ·

Hi, I need to get new ball joint boots/rubbers for my Beetles (two sets, uppers and lowers) and I recall a thread on here, possibly by Lee Noonan (68 Auto Bug?) that listed some Repco part numbers. Can anyone point me in the right direction...

I have some NOS type 3 ones. Are they the same?

Type 3 balljoint rubbers are bigger than the type 1 rubbers.

As quoted from Lee Noonan,

"REPCO Tie Rod/Ball joint Boot kit TE3 contains 2 boots.

the TE3 - Two in packet small hole 16mm & the Outer size hole : 34mm

this is VW part number 113 498 361 [boot or ball joint?]

fits the top ball joint in My 1968 ball joint Beetle.
I was lucky enough to have a New top ball joint
[with a ripped boot] to try the boot on...

some books say top and bottom boots are the same and some give different part numbers for the top and bottom boots??
I haven't tried to fit one on a bottom ball joint yet...
so can't help You there...

TE1= 12mm 26mm
TE2= 12mm 29mm
TE3= 16mm 34mm
TE4= 14mm 34mm

Then there are;
BJ5 = 14mm 40mm
BJ6 = 19mm 40mm
TE7 = 50mm 64mm

Not sure what these look like... Maybe larger all over...
these numbers are off the REPCO plastic bag."

VWCOOL,
can you tell me which ones you ended up getting for the lower ball joints?

And what sort of grease goes in a ball joint?

Cheers
Brendan

Would it not be easy enough to Ring Classic, vintage or micks and tell them the model of your car, the year etc and what ball joints you are after.... Or alternatively,

http://www.classicveedub.com.au/SpareParts/Parts_Results_Quick.asp - search for Ball Joint, select your vehicle, and the amount you need. If you can't work it out, or the price isn't there or something like that, give them a call, and explain what you need 🙂 Happy servicing!

Glen if your having to replace the rubber boot then possible the ball joint will also be gone and need replacing

better off replacing the lot
