10 years ago I sold em with s/h kombi mts fo $110. I just bought similiar from Rodney for about 75 I think, but not fitted it yet. The new one has urethane mts that just sit against forks therefore only help for the nose lifting and not torque twist like gb., but should do most aplications.

Make one, then do a group-buy like the other stuff.

Wouldn't they need to be solid mounted ?
I thought the idea was to stop ALL movement so the gearox wasn't twisting ?
matberry ·
Have you driven solid on the street?
Lets say you know it is solid and noisey, prob required over 200 hp or total uncaring drag launch's, but up to there, a bit of insulation/isolation is worth it, but rear support is also req'd, ie. kafer cup bar or engine support bar or both.

yeah I've had 3 steet beetles with solid mounts. They all had tramp bars as well as fork supports.
Just didn't see the point in having the brace/mount if it had movement through rubber mounts..............but I've never tried it either !

The rubber isolated one is the berg 'super duty' or something like that. Good luck getting a response from the Gene Berg website though. I've used the 'contact us' form twice with no response at all. Prior to that I tried Vintage vee dub but they only have the metal bracket part and you have to make your own rubber isolation system (if you want that). That may be all you need. They can order the super duty type for you but it will cost more than ordering it yourself of course - if you can actually get onto gene bergs.
It can't be hard to make it if you have access to a plasma cutter - have a look at the picture on geneberg.com.

Hi
I had a home made one on my old 1302, it had the Kombi rubber mounts fitted for the street and for any completion work, urethane bushes could be fitted.

hadn't thought of that.......................now thats an idea 😂

If you do,
make them out of decent plate (10mm), not flimsy 5mm,
and a wide mount against the forks,
other wise it does nothing to help for and aft movement.
There is a weld in version that welds between the forks rather than attaching underneath.
You will have to add longer studs with the thicker mount,
but then you can use nice head nuts (15mm spanner size) and washers.
Longer studs can be salvaged from old gearbox cases.

my rotabug has one o them
