About 6 months before I bought my 58 Beetle in 1993, the original motor got swapped out for the 40 hp unit. I am dropping a 36 hp unit back in, so this motor is now for sale.
It was a rebuilt unit in 93, and has done about 5000 miles since then - but the cooling pipes had been left off so it has got pretty hot. It sat around unused from 96 to 2006, and has run a few times since then.
Last time I got it serviced in about 96 I was told it needed a new bearing in the generator and probably a set of rings due to the blow by. It ran ok, and it was my daily driver from 93 to 96.
No prizes for guessing what type of fuel I was running...
If anyone has 36 hp case number 2380078, please PM me.
Also the car has a tunnel case / full synchro / whatever you want to call it later gearbox, but I am probably picking up a split case transmission soon so if you want a later gearbox then please PM me.

You wouldn't believe it - I've been trying to sell this motor since March - then 2 bites within a few days.
I just sold it to DUBB61, but shoot him a PM as he was just helping me to clear some space I don't think he has plans for it.
