melawramenko ·

Just wondering if anyone knows the new number for volkswest or if they have shut down?
I need to find someone who can machine my heads and crank case on a 1600cc twin port type 3. they are currently stock (84mm?) and i need it machined out to suit 94mm pistons & barrels.

I live in Kalgoorlie WA, so someone in perth would be awesome, but if i have to i will send them over east.

Try Ron Messina at
Harris Engine Centre.

Try Pace Motors near Cannington. They line bored a case for me a year or so ago.

The Vee Dub Centre in Osborne Park should be able to help you

Sounds like a good selection there.

Does Hi-speed conversions still operate in WA?
They were experts as early as the 70's.

melawramenko ·

thanks guys, i will have to get onto the case mods now that i've got some more spare cash 😀

humpty ·

Hi-speed Conversions shut down 15 years ago Dave.... And a bloody good thing too.... Bloody crooks!.... I don't think john at VeeDub Centre is trading anymore..... And I'd go see Ron Messina at Harris Engine Centre also... He's the best and he's a Dub man also....

phoned all three, pace motors were the most expensive, the guy alex there claimed he was the best in town.
so i sent away my bits to be done. they guarantee they wont f@ck up on the phone, but hey guess what??
broke through on my case $77 to weld it shut on top of the already excessive price and now i have a lovely warped crankcase heh

bertie_beetle ·

thats bull, tell 'em to stick it. they should foot the bill for a new case!

Shame you went to Pace Motors.... Never had good dealing with them.... But you say you had a case machined.... Can I ask what for?... If its just to clearance for bigger barrels, there is no reason to stuff it up.... If you are line boring the case, there is little there that could cause problems.... I'd like to know where they 'broke through'?.... And I would never weld a cracked crank case... Just too many potential problems...

VWCOOL ·

When you've found another case, ship it over to Stan Pobjoy for machining

Newt ·

Im currious, where did they damage the case?

What alloy are crank cases?
Welding should not be a problem, worst case stress relieving may be required.

Magnesium.... And it would be cheaper to just get a new case really.... Welding will cost $100-150.... Re-machining will be another $200-300 and stress relieving will prolly be about the same again....

When a brand new case can be had $600-700Aus (less if you import it yourself), I would and do go the new option every time... I will never use a used case on a HiPo project again.... And I would seriously think twice about re-using one in a stock build too... JMHO

Craig Torrens ·

probably $30 via Australia post to send it to Pobjoy......................have the case bored for 94's, the case faces machined so they are square to the crank (no one does this accurately) and then a line bore (also usually not machined straight by others).........job done !!

humpty ·

Or you could just go to Harris engines here in Perth and get it done right!

DannyW ·

how much does harris charge for a 94mm machining of the block and heads Humpty ?
I'm thinking about just buying a new ally case from the states but poleti has one here for 1000 wheres to import one is 900 hmmmm
600 for the case then 211 for shipping then the AUD conversion rates.

Check this out Danny.... It prolly not worth machining a new one really, when you can buy a brand new Ali one already done for you!
