Craig Torrens ·

To all the service men and women, past and present...................THANKYOU

vwkg ·

Well put.
Did anyone on here make it to a Dawn Service?

donn ·

Yep, went to the one at Nobys beach (everyone knows where that is, remember the grounding of the Pasha Bulka ?) realy wet realy windy and realy moving, don't know why but I just love the dawn service, gets ya thinking too about what went on, why, and the results that we enjoy.

dangerous ·

I always get sad thinking about how all those young fellows never came home to their mums.
What ever the war.

Special Air Service ·

Yeah, as the fella that lead the dawn service at currumbin said at the conclusion of the service, "its great to be Australian"

We went to the dawn service here. The most important fixture on the Australian calender as far as I'm concerned.

Thank You from my family as well.

Cheers
Brendan

My old mate (Harry) turns 90 tomorrow
He volunteered for the 2nd AIF and went to Egypt for desert training before fighting in Greece then evacuated to Crete and finally to Nth Africa (lucky).. He joined the LRDG and was captured by the Afrika Corp before escaping.. He was at El Alamain and also in the Italy campaign for the big push against the Germans..

Left the army at the end of the war and returned to NZ with land concession from the NZ govt.. He "won" his mates concession next to him in a card game and ran a dairy farm just out of Auckland until the mid 80's.. My Dad died and Harry became my mum's companion for the last 20 odd years.. He's nearly blind now and has a bad heart and an in-operable bowel tumour.. Hes a tough old bugger though and will be around for a bit yet..

God Bless Harry and all the old Diggers... Lest we forget...

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·

Got out to the dawn service at Sandgate this morning. It is getting bigger every year I have been attending(last 4 years). I didn't march today for my uncle who served in Vietnam due to hurting my back at work and only being able to walk relative short distances comfortably and standing for short periods of time. Certainly will be next year that's for sure!!!

To everyone who has ever served our country in conflict either here or overseas we owe you a great debt of gratitude for your efforts and even more thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Lest we forget.....

LUFTMEISTER ·

A salute to all the diggers.
thanks for what we have and are.
hope that all their good memorys bouy them and the bad fade.
lest we forget.............
