airkewld ·

westi ·
yeh 28th sounds good at the moment,i am waiting on two more little things to arrive and then i am good to go.
airkewld ·
Just did last dyno run and got 208hp ...... should be interesting next week.....
westi ·
not to shabby, what rev's ,what torque was produced.and what does the curve look like.
airkewld ·
not sure of those details yet... picking the car up tomorrow so il find out and get back to you
dangerous ·
Should be deep into the elevens dude.
Excellent.
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Nice work mate. That sort of power will make a big impression on the track!!
westi ·
cool.
as long as she's not to heavy it should make for some super quick times.
airkewld ·
thanks for the replies guys...im very happy with the result especially with the belt and muffler on.......Hey dave are u running any fibreglass on ur car these days?
Mick058 ·
What size engine? Good numbers
airkewld ·
Its a 2442cc N/A combo .... cheers
Mick058 ·
Coming to pizza run night or nats? Be a nice car to see.

airkewld wrote:thanks for the replies guys...im very happy with the result especially with the belt and muffler on.......Hey dave are u running any fibreglass on ur car these days?
My car currently weighs 809kg,
but does use 'glass guards and engine cover to account for some of the weight associated with saftey, engine and tranny....f'glass bonnet too.
Mine only makes 225 out of 2715cc so mike has done a top job on that engine.( mine about 250 to 255 FW)
He may have had the dyno set on engine power,
but even accounting for that, it is still is higher than what Rod R's 11.96@112 combo makes.(168@wheels)
airkewld ·
I would have liked to have come to the Pizza run night however i will not be able to make it... (sorry dino) ..... I want to keep the car with as much orginal body parts as possible like steel guards etc but at the same time i want to make it lighter... its a tough choice.... i am very happy with the hp mike got from the engine..... when u say dyno set on engine power what do u mean?
dangerous ·
airkewld wrote:..... when u say dyno set on engine power what do u mean?
Mike told me that the Dynodynamics software can give you a CALCULATED flywheel HP at the flick of a switch.(probably a button).
It varies with different cars of course.
This is not to say that is the case with yours.
MPH will tell the real HP either way.
If you want to keep your car all steel,
light wheels and brakes are the biggest savings
that I have looked into to get mine down
to the minimum class weight in future.(773kg)
airkewld ·
oh ok so you mean a calculated FW hp from the 208 rwhp. Does that mean that the RWHP number is still reasonably acurate or no? ..... the final aim regardless is to have it running solid 11s so hopefully we can achieve this .... I have no clue of the weight of the car but we have attempted to lighten it somewhat with new weld draglites, lexan windows (other than the front), removed the bumpers and put in lighter seats. Sorry for all the questions im just sort of new to this.....
westi ·
i guees i will be alittle under weight with the junka but who cares as long as it's fast.
taking fast vw's out to the street meet's is mad fun.i love the look on your fellow drag racers face at the start of the run.
and when you get back to the pit's when finished the look on there faces is priceless.even if you didn't win you usually give a mad scare.
i am looking good for the 28th so far.only waiting on a few more ods and sods.
damn yanks.

I am confident that the rear wheel number will be accurate.
But what I am unsure of,
is whether your number is the calculated FW number.
The graph should say this if it is the case.
My reason for this is that my own car ran 11.40 with only 188 wheel power,
and Rod R's car ran 11.96 with 168.
There is a good chance that it IS wheel HP though
with the parts your engine uses.

Also is the dyno calibrated?
My old drag car ran 12.05 with a dyno figure of only 137hp atw. !!!
Go figure?? [obviously vehicle weight comes into it but...]
airkewld ·
hmm i guess i will just have to see how we go.... hopefully we wont be disappointed and the figures reached on the dyno are fairly accurate.... lol all i want is an 11 second pass.... if i can get this then i will be the worlds happiest man ....
dangerous ·
You should be in the 11's no worries dude.
Can't wait!
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Troy would really love an 11 second pass out of his Type 3. With a possible 250-300hp at the wheels(fingers crossed) it should be possible so long as the gearbox is co operative with 1100+ Kg's of car.
airkewld ·
Hows everything coming along westi..... u think u will be ready for tomorrow night.... anyone else coming out?
tayloredvw ·
hey man, yeah i was going to come spectate. What time does it start?
airkewld ·
Its at Western Sydney International Dragway , racing from 6-10pm
Mick058 ·
wont be able to make it, but make sure you post your times tomorrow. Get some video!
westi ·
count me out.still going.nearly there.
have fun be safe and send us some great news tommorrow.
airkewld ·
Tonight sucked the big one as a storm came over and washed out the street meet..... there wasnt any racing from us but we will head out next wednesday the 4th of june.... Its unreal how the weather can be fine all day everyday up until the 4 hours the races are on..... then it clears ...... mother nature sucks.....
vwpizza ·
Hey Chris how did you go ????
airkewld ·
we didn get to race dino it was cancelled due to rain.... better luck next week hopefully
BeetleJuice ·
Has this beast had a run yet?
airkewld ·
Hey guys we did have a run this past wednesday night but were unable to find second gear after many attempts in both runs. Both passes were very similar only achieving a 14 and a 15 second pass. It sounded as though on the second and final pass of the night that a valve went so back to the shop she goes...
BeetleJuice ·
Sorry to hear that news...Hope it's no major problem to repair!
Can you post some pics of your bug?..It looks very nice!

Did you find out what the problem was ?
Have you had another run ?
I heard that a beetle had a melt down not that long ago at the drags, apparently it leaned out and burnt a hole right through the head and even the tinware !!!!!!!.🤪
airkewld ·
Hey Craig yea the rumour you heard is correct and unfortunately it was mine. A hole was burnt through the head and tinware. Not sure of the exact cause and what and if any other damage was done but the repair will be on the cards for the coming month. Cant wait to get it back out there and hopefully this time we wont hurt it lol. Oh by the way we are planning on EFI to make it more streetable 😎
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
that's a very serious lean out to do that much damage!!
Mick058 ·
HEy airkewld, did you have any more pics you can post of the car?
Craig Torrens ·

OUCH ! Sorry to hear the news was of your car.
That's certainly one very bad leanout.
Is it not streetable on Carbs ?
airkewld ·
Yea as i said im not sure what caused it as yet but will find out soon. I dont have any more pics of the car atm but i will take some for u and post them when i get a chance...
airkewld ·
Yea it does suck.... well it is drivable but i just mean through low rpm which gets a bit rocky.. I just think that EFI will be a lot easier to maintain in terms of tuning etc..
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
EFI FTW.....
Craig Torrens ·
were you running NOS ?........it seems very odd to burn a hole through comp eliminator heads and tinware just on pump fuel.
was it in good tune ?
airkewld ·
hey sorry or the lte reply had no net. Hopeully EFI will get the job done..... No we were not running any NOS and we were just running pump fuel... not sure what went wrong
