does anyone use the factory fuel injection on their beetle?
the type that came on some of the last mexican/brazilian beetles. if so, does it work well, and can it bought here in Australia? is it cost effective?
im tired of carbies not working properly and perhaps wanna look at going this way on a stock 1600.
thanks for any help

Carbies can be fixed...?
There was some mention of using the Mexico EFI hardware, with aftermarket/Aussie ECU, on some 1916s etc etc a year or so ago - maybe a 'search' will get you some names and info

yea i know, gotta try new carby kits in them, but maybe the mexican efi setup could be more or less a bolt in affair, with little wiring needed.
i dont wanna use aftermarket ecu's as i already run one im my other beetle

its NOT a boly on affair theres a lot of work fuel lines and wiring etc etc mounting hardware and also not worth doing if you only have fuel must have ignition as well
BUT its worth it if u can get the mexican mainfolds and use some aftermarket stuff injectors and ECU
mine cost about 2K but if i was doing again would buy a more advanced ECU

i realise whats involved, but i take it the factory ecu is not available??

yr best bet is to look on the net fora VW wrecker in USA and as for a price on a full engine but shiping will be expensive

This is what I was quoted last year for OE EFI stuff:
alternator strap $7.33 new
end casting $10 each
Plenum with Throtle body $42.63
TPS $42.63
intake temp sensor $36.54
injector $54.8 each
Fuel rail $14.63 each
alternator stand $32.89 new
oil cap $3 new
shipping ups $98
total US$531.48
A guy on Shoptalk forums was selling Mexican VW stuff. I dont know about the Mexican ECU but the hardware looks good.

i looked into this a few months ago
the old bosch system was good back then but by todays standards isnt upto much
i was just gonna get either stock EFI manifolds or weld in injector bosses to by existing ones and use late model car parts with megasquirt ECU was gonna be alot more tunable than stock system and around the same cost but parts could be sourced at local wrecking yards
alot of ppl are going this way now
cos u can build up a junkyard efi for the same as a decent pair of webers/dells and have a car that runs 10x better

I still run the factory system on the cab. It's very smooth (for a dub!) but as long as I leave it alone it works fine!
