Seat replacement regulations

Right I have a couple of nice Subaru seats that I want to fit into my sons Baja but I can't find anything on the Queensland Transport website that will give any details on the do's and don'ts of getting them approved? I have the VW subframes and I have the seats and I have the car all I need is to put them all together the right way. Do I just need the approval of a registered transport engineer? A point in the right direction here would be most appreciated.

ask ya local rego guys they will set ya straight i fine asking the right people is best the old my mates friends uncle first girlfriens second cousins aunty is a bit vague

I was actually hoping someone would know where exactly I could get the regulations as the Qld Transport site is all but useless when it comes to seats. Wheels, exhausts, windows, steering wheels, seatbelts, lights and suspension, even bonnet scoops but nothing at all about replacing seats🤪

You'll need to find someone who does blueplating in your area.

Sides ·

I went through the process for the Sparco seats I have mounted in Jezebel, and although it involved a few phone calls and a bit of a paper-chase with Sparco overall it wasn't too difficult or expensive.

Basically there's two parts to it - first the seats themselves need to be ADR approved, then the mounting system needs to be signed off by an engineer. Qld Transport call them "Approved Persons" and they should be able to give you a list of who to go to.

The seats themslves should be easy in your case provided they carry the ADR approval markings, but I'd recommend design up the mounts and run them by your engineer before doing anytyhing. Once done and OK'd by the engineer they'll do you up a blue plate that details the mod, rivet it to the car and you're good to go.

Cheers Dave, now all I have to do is find a blue-plater on the Sunshine Coast👍

Sides ·

No problemo.

I had Keith at KCF Rallysport in Kippa-Ring do a fair bit of work on my car - cage, seats, seat mounts and harnesses which was all on one of my blue-plates.

They predominantly do road legal race and rally prep work, but could be worth a call - especially if you want the stuff made rather than mucking around with it yourself !!!

I don't mind mucking about with it myself , I just want to do it right first time without having to redo it sometime down the track as it's not legal or some sh*t.

race craft in kunda park did my seat rails and they are legal barry. but he took his time, i didnt get them back till about 2.5 months after i took them to him and it was only about 2 hours work max.

Cheers Nick,
I may drop in to see them but only if they can promise a quicker turn around than that! BTW a new guy at work (Krisost on AVD) has a very similar baja to yours but with a mega roofrack!!
