Gearbox R&P advice needed

Brett ·

Hi all
I have a type 111 IRS box that has a ratio of 4.12 R&P (I think) The box is in a buggy that is running 32" tires and the gearing is too tall for the moter and the work we do with it (Its a farm cruiser). We mainly use first and second gear, very rear to use 3rd and never use 4th.
I want to change the R&P to suit our application.
So what would you suggest 3.44 or 3.88 R&P or something else entirely.
Running a stock but very strong single port 1600.
Who would I order off in Aus or USA.
Thanks for the help.
Brett

You actually need to use a ratio with a bigger number to make up for your tyres.

The factory has 4.375 and in Brazil: 4.62, 5.14 and 4.86.

The 4.86 is available in Webster or Richmond brand.
I think Vintage had some 4.86 in stock but way cheaper ordering from the USA, even with UPS freight.
I recall seeing some 4.86 and 5.14 at VW parts Service in Brisbane but they closed
and all their stock went to Volvo centre.
Good luck.

If you want to try USA ring Weddle, or use on line at CIP.

Since its a farm buggy and already IRS, wouldnt it be cheaper to put it a 1600 Kombi Box with a 5.42 R&P??

Thanks for the information. I thought the R&P sounded wrong in my head. Lucky I am good with my hands.

I will research those options.

Thanks
