Electrical issue

my daughter has a 74 bug and every now and then the radio goes off and the lights go dim.the radio /cd was only fitted last saturday but i think this is a coincidence as this only started today.thanks in advance for any help.

sounds like an eart wire problem have a hunt around especially for the radio some of those new radios dont earth through a wire but use the speekers so if there is no earth try just clamping one to the radio and a good earth

today the car wouldnt start after being driven about 20klms and parked at some shops for a while.it push started and then my wife took it and had the alternator checked (7.5 volts) so i guess its time for a new one.funny thing is,if you leave the car sitting for a while or even overnight it starts first kick.there is an earth wire connected to the radio.thanks for the clue.
