Hey I have a column that I pick up from a guy that is collapsible and has two switches (indicators and wipers I guess). It has a funky plug on the column that I'll need to get a connector for but that's another story. Anyway I need a hub to mount my Momo wheel and there is a guy selling hub to suite 74 on beetles on ebay at present.

Question 1) does the 74 on have a shaft that is different to earlier beetles? does anyone know these measurements?

Question 2) is there an easy way of identifying the vintage on my column? it did have the big ass black wheel that I鈥檝e seen on curve screens.

Cheers for you help 馃檪

Hi

Those connectors were used on bugs from 72 on, so wont be hard to get, as was the 4 spoke black steering wheel.

The 74 should have finer spline than early bugs with a taper between the spline and the thread.

If your buying a Momo boss kit,
Momo Part #: 0248 - Volkswagen Beetle Up to 6/1974
Momo Part #: 8010 - Volkswagen Beetle 6/1974-1990

ok Steve, I had a look and the thread looks like is runs for around 30mm then there is a definite taper, say 30 deg down to the splines which are very fine. The OD of the spline would be similar to my thumb....so based on that I'm guessing < 74 according to your info.

Do this sound correct? why do I insist on buying crap on ebay anyway?

Hi

Just to be sure I will post a picture of the spline.
