I've found my buggies front end is WAY too heavy for standard torsion bars, so chasing a set of heavy duty ones to get it off the ground.
hard to find ?
VWCOOL ·
are yours in good condition?
Jeez it must be heavy to be heavier than a Beetle...?
DannyW ·
I changed it over to another set of bars and still the same thing if not worse.
had someone take a look at it and hes stumped to why its so low, its like theres none at all
it has a big scrub bar on the front and steel floor pan plus the extensive bar work. but i think the risen rear end maybe putting too much force on the front?
bajachris88 ·
all the splines of the torsion bars rightly aligned?
Have u got front end adjusters to screw it up to raise the front?
any piccies? Big rear end will direct weight forward, but u wouldn't think it would be that bad, despite the barwork!
DannyW ·
yea it went in the way they came out of the spare front end which had no troubles, maybe something inside the tubes is amiss ?
I have no adjusters and dont really want to cut and reweld the tubes then start breaking torsion bars.
bajachris88 ·
nah man, u shouldn't have to.
Before doing anything though brudda, wait for a few other opinions... might be an easy fix...
Nothing eva good comes from 'sagginess'
(in more ways than torsion bars :P)
bajachris88 ·
dunno if its the preload settings or sumfin
matberry ·
king/link or ball joint?
DannyW ·
king/link. which are fairly big, the rods are about an inch wide
matberry ·
Rods?
Do you mean tie rods?
Is it standard width?
You know a photo or to saves at least a thousand words! hehe
DannyW ·
if it wasnt pitch black outside i would take a photo.
i was talking about the king pins. aparently they are alot larger then the originals.
but that doesnt really have anything todo with the problem I wouldnt think
matberry ·
Large king pins wont effect front ride height [nor will rear ride height]
If it has a widened front end the front torsion bars will be one pair for each side, asopposed to one set of leaves that goes side to side and anchored in the center.
If standard width, and you have already replaced torsions with a different set, that would rule out broken leaves, assuming you checked [would be obvious if the leaves are seperated], so it comes down to weight [hard to imagine on a buggy], and you can start to upgrade with replacing the two piece leaves with one piece leaves from your discarded sets, or the high buck method of buying aftermarket torsions from the states[Sway-a-way]
Post a pic tomorrow

Just get coil overs, I have never seen Heavy Duty front Leaf packs, you can make em up from a few sets if you want (swping halves and fulls) , do you have pre load set in them with a cut and turn or adjusters ?
Front is not usually an issue in stock length armed front ends.
DannyW ·
eventually just cut my beam up, and re welded but I also put some load helpers over the shocks which work great ! still a little soft but does the job.

Hi
The pics aren't showing up
all You had to do was change the locating piece in the centre of the torsion bars
the dimple that holds them in place
this is the part that is removed when adjusters are fitted..
