had a bit of fun with hammer and chisel and got that rusty floor out of the way, only to see that the outriggers that i thought to be good, were well and truly rustn away.so i've chopped out all the outriggers, floor and jacking points, all ready to be sandblasted hopefully ths week if the sun stays out

bags ·

bags ·

had a chat to mr sandblaster and was advised to strip the paint from all the larger panels (warpage)so out came the paint stripper (bad stuff) ,gets the job done though

bare metal inside,out and underneath

the sandblaster did a sweet job, good price to,only took him 4 hours to do

cleaned up the bits left over from paint strippn with a paint strip disk, they're a bit pricey but don't heat your panels as mutch as a sanding disk, also doesn't leave scratches in the steel

next mission is to get the inside and underneath in 2k primer

Brad ·

Cool looking ride.

On a side note. If you put after then the image will display in your post. You can also just click the little picture icon in the post template and it will allow you to enter the link in and then do it for you.

I have done it to your first post to show you what happens.

Everyone love pics 👍

bags ·

thanx heaps for the tip brad

it took me long enough to get them on the site, not to good with computers

pictures are a little on the large side,is there any way of makeing them smaller after they've been posted

bags ·

all primed up

i tell you it's a bitch of a job doing the underside without a rotisserie

rocknrob ·

it's always good to see an old veedub come back from the grave...good on you👍

kroozzn63 ·

looks like your working up a storm, doesnt look to bad keep up the momentum ,thanks for the pics

bags ·

yea, it's good to finally see the bus come back to life, im pretty sykt on this project things are movin along nicely so far hopefully i can keep it up

i'v got this picture in my head of the finished product that keeps me crankn

dumped on chrome raders

dove blue

safaries

deluxe interior

hell yea

bags ·

well it's time to start puttin some metal back in,since i've cut most of it out

think im going to start on the floor first

heres a few supports i fabed up

Brad ·

is that pallet racking you are welding in there ?

bags ·

no pallet racking here, only wolfsburg west repair panels

bags ·

got the left hand side outer sills in,tested the door for gap at the bottom and alls good

outriggers and jacking points in and sitting flush with the bottom of floor, starting to get a little structure in the floor it's lookn sweet

bags ·

front crossmember in

was a little to wide, suprised, thought wolfsburg west would be sweet so i stretched out the end folds a little on the anvil

had to make up a section for the rear crossmember as it was rusted out in the corner

bags ·

.

bags ·

while i'm waiting on the outer sill to start the other side of the floor,i cleaned up yhe rust at the bottom of the window sillls

was mainly the passengers side that was rusted out, drivers only had a little in the corner

bags ·

bags ·

cut it out and cleaned it up,made up a new section to put in

bags ·

tacked a straight edge along the face,so it doesnt bow in when i weld it up

bags ·

all welds ground back and smoothed out with a sanding disk

was a shit of a job to grind back, specialy in the corners, glad it's done

bags ·

got my outer sill and some other autocraft pannels the other day so get weldn on my floor again

bags ·

got the inner sill clampt in so i can get the right hight for the outer sill to sit in nicely, then ill tak in the outer and take out the inner so i get at it easier to dolly up

all welded up and ground smooth

bags ·

now i can start oin the outriggers and jax

nearly all done just got to put the stifeers bak on the side panel and then i can put the floor in

silver ·

Well done
Cant wait to see it finished Love a splitty panels

bags ·

hellalulia,we have a floor again just got to grind up the welds and do the plate for the bottom latch, smudge some seam sealer in there and were done

pics still loding

bags ·

kroozzn63 ·

man got skills very nice work. gas or gasless? im assuming gasless nice welds

LUFTMEISTER ·

Gasless by the smudges on the spot welds. Very nice construction work. Will look very Shmick👍

bags ·

i'm running gas,just started my 2nd bottle

i can see where your coming from though it does look it

on the spot welds i had it cranked up hot so the weld would sink and i wouldnt have to grind so mutch

just the sound of that grinders startn to shit me,bring on the bog dust🤪

fangdangle ·

nice work mate, can't wait to see the next bit.

bags ·

bus has got a brandnew smile

inside was alot rustier than i had anticipated, but thats how it usualy goes

got all the rusty busines cut away and cleand up

outer skin was too short so i extended it 100mm and made up a new section for the bottom of the vee,got bashn away on the anvil and all turned out sweet, makes the job a hell of alot easier when yur not stuck under the car with yor arm jacked at some crazy angle

got all the inside primed up then plug welded the two outer skins together, welded and ground it all up then dressed the lip over

bags ·

Bizarre ·

WOW 🤪

Never ceases to amaze me how much work you guys go into repairing early busses.
Beetles are nothing compared to what happens with there.

Amazing work mate.
Well done 👍

kroozzn63 ·

bags is that your ghia? in your avatar

bags ·

thanks biz,i'm yet to tackle a bug

yeah kroozzn thats my ghia, just finished it a few months ago

bags ·

got the rear corners all done and the battery tray in just gotta make up the section botom of the wheel well

also replacd the wheel well section flows nice now

i'm doing the doors at the moment and am haten it 😬😬😬 doors sure are a bitch 😬😬 one of the cargo doors hinges had been cut of at the body in it's previous life so had to make up some new ones the other had the window treatment so i reskinned the top section, botttom sections are all gone inside and out so must attent to that also😬😬😬

bags ·

front passenger door was beet up pretty good entire bottom hinge was gone, half of top one gone and what was there was bent so being the impatient bastard i am couldn't wait to sorce some donners so i ended up making some new ones, was alot of trial and error to get shit to line up since wat holds the door was rusted away, but got there in the end

bags ·

also got the bottom step and floor section done

Chief ·

great job...👍

cant wait to see it finished!

Have u chosen a colour scheme for it?

bags ·

thanks chief,

colours at the moment (subject to change)will most likely be doveblue and a dark grey in the cargo area, slammed on a set of raders, but the bank balance is getting a little low so i might have to skip on wheels and put some stockys on😢

bags ·

got all my steel and body work done and is in highbuild primer now,so i'll let it sit for a while before i rub it back, might hit the inside with some colour soon

got the underside done in a spray on rubber based coating, sure is some toxic shit

also got the master cylinder in and new metal brake lines

sorted out my 4 inch narrowd, adjustable beam too,i ended up shortening the original tubes so i could keep the original roller bearing bushes, some steel adjusters from csp and some 10mm lasercut end plates

PASHN8 ·

Looking great mate, well done! Looks like its almost at the same stage as my '61 panel! Are you in Melbourne?

DieSchnelleKafer ·
