They are worth what ever someone wants to pay....Difference between the goldie and britex, is the fact that the goldie was a factory fitted sunroof. About 400 times better than the britex....

Kuchster ·

So a britex is an aftermarket?

What sort of a price range would it be worth?

Did Herbie have a goldie?

Thanks

Dasdubber ·

When I saw the title I thought you had changed your plans again Nick!!

Kuch, I paid $650 for a golde clip about 4 or 5 years ago.

StenGuns ·

Why are Golde's that much better than a Britax? I understood Britax was fitted by VW for years.. I understand that it is smaller than a Golde but, other than that, what is the difference?

prepare to pay $1500 + for that one.

With the goldie you need the roof clip as well ..... it has extra strengthing ribs to fit it

The Britex is after market and bolts / screws onto the roof opening

Joel ·

britax are aftermarket, any vw with a britax has been fitted by a past owner
golde was the only factory rag vw used and yes thats what herbie had to

one of my cars had a britax
they are actually very good quality, when closed u wouldnt even know its there (very wind/water resistant) and the wind defelectors they come with work well
alot are electric too but ive never seen a vw with an electric one tho
theyre also a tiny bit bigger than a golde as well

vwsteve ·

ive had a few factory ragtops, they are definitely the way to go for originality and make a car worth a lot of money when fitted properly, i bought a roof section around 12 years ago from volksrestore for $500 but they are worth a lot more now, if its vgc its probably worth the $1500 to a serious buyer but hey its only worth what someone will pay for it and there is a bit of work involved in fitting it too.

StenGuns ·

Joel.. Britax may not be the Wolfsburg Factory original but the were installed and delivered on NEW VW's in the late 60's and 70's. They may have been a dealer option (as was flash trim) after VW discontinued fitting the Golde during assembly.. This is what I understand

dont see many steel sunroof bugs around aus

i was utterly disgusted on sunday when this abortion parked next to us and i noticed it had an original steel sunroof

sorry if it belongs to anyone on here but it really is truly ugly

C'mon guy's
fess up, you all know this is true [sorry to hurt any feelings],Britax wasn't factory/dealer fitted.AFAIK

VWCOOL ·

No Britaxes weren't 'factory' fit, they were dealer fit on lots of cars not just VWs, just like towbars etc

Lots of pom cars have Britaxes. I have one (not installed yet - I pulled it from a wreck) and although it is not 'factory' for a VW, it looks to me like a quality bit of gear

StenGuns ·

Agreed (I also have one in the shed)
Seems like a lot of people believe that "If its not a Golde then its crap".. Not so with the Britax.. It would be a pity to see those excellent vehicles with Britax's installed get de-valued due to "Golde Hysteria". Britax roofs are everwhere.. especially popular in Minis' MG's and post 67 VW Beetles..

Euro_67 ·

Are Britax rag top roofs still available NOS ?
