nice mate. am just up the road at wilston. looks like a good solid score.

nick

izac ·

cheers nick

just up the hill at wilston ey, sweet man... what dubs do you have at the moment?
have probably seen them round...

izac

bond ·

atm - none! just a project beetle.

custom veedub are down the road at stafford "hayward st" opposite the stafford tavern if you run into any issues.
pete and dave - absolute champs and know their shizzle.

nick

keegan da pirate ·

Damn man, nice square! Had my eye on this. Was on the north coast, beat me to it.

Good luck with it.

izac ·

Yeah man, thats right - picked it up from Mooloolaba.... long drive but worth it!

keegan da pirate ·

Yeah man, would've been. I'm keeping my eye on this thread. Sounds like you've got your priorities right. Jumping under that front end first! 👍

izac ·

Ok, finally got it lowered yesterday, dropped it one inner in the back (though it looks like more, seems to have dropped down very low maybe 15cm or so and has a more negative camber than I expected for 1 spline??? dropped 1 inner in the front. It looked to have been dropped 1 spline in the front already though I am not sure.... running with no shocks on the front atm... old brazilian shocks have had it. i also took the bump stop rubbers off (it only had one on one side anyway) is this the correct thing to do?

the back is at least 20mm lower than the front so I have a bit of levelling ahead of me.... 😏

also, i have suspected this for awhile but the right handside, especially at the back seems to be about 25mm lower than the left....??? when I did the rear the spring plates looked to be in the same position before and after, so i am not sure how this works ❓ i am thinking about trying a 'tuning move' on the right hand side to bring it up a bit but im not sure how this will work if plates are in the same place already ?????

when disconnecting the hand brake to get the spring plate around the cable, the cable pulled down into the tunnel... i am not sure how to get it back up and through?

thoughts would be very welcome...

still havent got the floor done yet... hopefully getting it towed to Custom VeeDub and getting it replace very sooon...

new exhaust system and shocks are also on the list

variant ·

Nice buy - can't go wrong with squares!

Had the same problem with mine that the right sat lower. Adjusted the other side by one notch.

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·

you will need the bump stop rubbers especially when you are riding low.

decked dubby ·

Awesome looking car dude. Low the early squares. Nice work.

izac ·

cheers guys, will post more pics soon when I get it levelled and so on.

J BOMB ·

looks awesome mate ! nice height !

Dilbert ·

sweet looking ride. something to be proud of.

izac ·

thought this pic looked cool 😎

still havent got the rear back up where i want it yet, tried on sturday but didnt go according to plan - please have a look at my ' type 3 rear lowering' thread in type 3s and ghias if u can help please

much appreciated

Got to love a slammed square 🙂 good luck with it, its looking awesome so far.

greedy53 ·

love the 2 piece hand brake

izac ·

ok finally getting somewhere....

finally got the height to where i want it last week, so now i can get it out of the drive way 👍 and onto the tow truck....
a little less negative camber as you can see haha

fixed the fuel leak (i think) took a couple of go's - first time the hose was too big i think...

taking it into custom veedub tomorrow and getting some work on the engine and the floor done.... 🙂

heres some pics of how it is sitting now

and some rust spots etc

left hand rear fender

right front fender

pasenger floor pan

and wait for it.....

drivers side floor

notch-72 ·

Nice ride mate, Exactly what my old mans looking for.Looks like you got a bit of work ahead of you with all that rust
Good luck with it all.

izac ·

picked up some of these yesterday

got them for just over a grand with 135/165 nankangs and wolfsburg caps to boot! all brand new thanks Ronnie 👍

not sure about the 135s though, look terribly skinny! might swap them for something a bit wider was thinking some Federal FD1 165/50s

cant wait to get them on the car but will have to wait a bit longer (hopefully some time this week) as it is still at Custom Veedub and when Pete gets back from fraser...

the car will hopefully be on the road in the next couple of weeks... its had main seal done, trans out replace axles (might have to slap some short axles and tubes in there as the wheels (MWS repro brms) only have ET25 offset but should just tuck in with that negative camber!) ..... still gotta replace that passenger side floor..

plans after that are some new carbies for a bit more oomph, been looking at these http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C13%2D47%2D7341
but have restrictions due to the small space under the engine lid... any suggestions or advice would be good
have a stock 1500 (sp i think) with twin solex carbs that need replacing

cheers

izac ·

after spending some time at Custom Vee Dub, it is finally roadworthy.

going to get it registered tomorrow. hopefully its not too low for them...🤪

cant wait

izac ·

😁

got the plates without any trouble on friday! the lady didnt even come out to have a look at the car!!🤓

heres some pics with her new shiny plates and front wheels.... back wheels arent on because i will have to either put short axles and tubes in or modify the fenders to make them fit with no rubbing.

thanks to Pete, Dave and Eileen at Custom Vee Dub for helping to get it this far!
and also my dad.😉

took her for another short drive yesterday with new wheels and 135s on. no rubbing at all with the 135s but did notice a rubbing noise coming from the back left wheel - im sure its not the tires scrubbing because i have the stock wheels on the back but thinking it might be the drum.

The engine is running well and is freakin LOUD with new Thunderbird exhaust 👍 got some dirty looks from some elderly ladies while driving past them in the street 😂😂😂

heres some pics

also looking for a new latch for rear door if anyone can help out (have put post in buying selling parts forum)

cheers

Euro_67 ·

izac wrote:: did notice a rubbing noise coming from the back left wheel - im sure its not the tires scrubbing because i have the stock wheels on the back but thinking it might be the drum.
Great looking square !
Check the Castle nuts on both rear dums. They work loose over time and cause the drum to wobble on the spline of the axle.
I had this problem on my last early notch. If it is left unattended for long, the spline inside the drum will wear out and the nut will continue to loosen no matter how tight you do it up. If this is the case, a good used replacement brake drum is the only option.

I hope this helps.

Wayne

izac ·

Thanks Wayne

it seems to be making the noise once every rotation of the wheel... will check it out today.

cheers

pete wood ·

congrats. the old ladies are giving you dirty looks coz they wish they'd never sold their squarebacks. 😀

izac ·

😂 yeah probably

izac ·

i had a look at the brakes today and found that the rubbing noise is something to do with the shoe on the left rear drum. tried adjusting them to make it a bit looser but to no avail (never adjusted the drums before myself - any tips would be good)..
i then took the front of the drum off and the shoes look a bit worn... not sure if that would be it❓ when turning the drum by hand it is loose but when you get about half way round it is really stiff and difficult to turn... what can i do about this?

choppa ·

Izac
You need to get yourself a manual. A Bentley is best, if u cant get a T3 one they have reprinted beetle ones which should be useful to you. Or a Haines and the Idiot manual by John Muir is a good read.

Your shoes maybe worn too outa round to save em.
But try this
Jack rear up. Undo handbrake cables in cab. Wind adjusting stars up firm/tight. Pump brakes a few times. Wind adjusting stars out till just touching drum. Re adjust handbrake cables so they pull evenly on both sides.

Have a cup of tea.

SummerBus ·

Nice looking square Izac, very cool mate.
She looks amazing dumped on her arse and the new shoes set her off beautifully.Well done, looking forward to the progress shots.

cheers

izac ·

well did some work on th floor yesterday and today...

wire brushed and sanded it down a bit and slapped a bit of this stuff on it...

and some bright red Bristol Stop Rust that my dad has had sitting around for years, and it is a big improvement!!

pretty in your face but i like it 😀 planning to get some carpet soon anyway 😉

looks a lot better than this

i think its happy with its new coat, been waiting a long time

izac ·

finally got some carpet.
came today from Busnbug, thanks Brad.

put it in for a test fit this afternoon before i put the underlay in and stick it all down..

Peter_D_C ·

Woot!

Nice one izac. Got carpet in mine last week as well. Installed a stereo too after much pain and swearing.... Never again.

izac ·

cool man. i have a 12v pioneer headunit i wannt to put in mine but my car is 6v!!??🤪

how did you do yours?

Peter_D_C ·

Im a '69 so luckily im 12v.

Bought what i though was an original accessory radio holder thingy that was meant to bolt into the dash. It must have been for an earlier or later model cause it didnt fit, so had to trim it a little.

6x9's with spacers in the rear under the back seat, 6"s on the kickboards. Goes alright. Be sure to put your wires in before carpeting!

Burgo ·

what a load of crap... LOL im kidding man, looking great! should get like flames on it i reckon haha

Burgo ·

dude shweeet carpet!! i just saw those newer piccys! damn it looks good aye

izac ·

Burgo wrote:what a load of crap... LOL im kidding man, looking great! should get like flames on it i reckon haha
yeah load of awesome crap that is 😂

thanks man, but no flames for Miles only patina..
yours is looking good aswell, can't wait to race ya haha
peace out

Wannavee ·

Cool mate,congrats

izac ·

took the carpet back out yesterday and put in the 'underlay'.

bought a 2m square of 10mil thick felt for about 50 bucks, and cut it out to the countours of the floorpan, tunnel, front and rear kick boards,
and rear cargo area. acts as a cushioning for the carpet and hopefully sound insulation (to replace the old tarboard) as it is very dense.... would have liked to have done it in one big piece (better insualtion) but it was too thick to bend tightly around the corners

2 meters gave me more than enough, still to do rear firewall (behind back seat)

here are some pics

trickysimon ·

Looks good 👍
Has the underlay made a noticeable difference?

colonel mustard ·

Love the car Izac!!!

matara ·

How come you'e not put the BRM's on the rear yet? Do you need to swap over to short beetle axles to get them under?

Looking excellent though

Cheers

Steve

izac ·

Hey Steve, yeah i still havent got around to putting the short bug axles in yet, they are just a bit to wide to fit under.

you can see those clear bullet lenses you sold me, cheers 👍

trickysimon, yeah the underlay does seem to make a fair difference especially now i have it in the boot.

colonel mustard ·

starting to look good. here are some pics of it at boondal before dubs at the pie. 😎

I think I've got the image to work, Thanks Izac. Your not just a drummer... hahaha

izac ·

hey man if you use the 'Embed' feature in the bottom right hand corner of Ovi and paste the Large forum link in to your post.
cheers

izac ·

Just got theseoff the Samba recently... came in the mail on Friday.

They are 36 Dellorto Drla's. I have ordered the CB short manifolds and linkage kit which should be here soon and some smaller 28mm venturis and a Delllorto handbook which should hopefully help me out.

I am pulling the engine out this week doing a bit each afternoon after work. I got the car up on stands at the rear and and ramps up fornt today. But I have realised that my trolley jack wont reach high enough to the engine. a
what can i do? any ideas?

will post some pics tomorrow

colonel mustard ·

Sweet looking dell's dude.
As for the jack - just use your brain and do it safe 🙂

izac ·

got the engine out this afternoon!! twas my first time pulling it out so it sure was a learning experience!!! 🤓
nearly slipped off the jack at one point!

[img][img]

colonel mustard ·

doing those shortened axles when it goes back in???? then you can get all the sweet wheels on.... 🙂 dunno if im going to be coming over dude, Iv got heaps to do before i leave for easterfest on friday morning. You going??

izac ·

yeah man hope to do the short axle conversion with Pete while its out.
no worries man, nah im not going to easterfest...

anyway atleast its out now so i can get those dells on here are some more pics

colonel mustard ·

Have the dell's been kitted recently?? They look sweet, Pretty sure thats what i want on my 1915. Sad that I have to wait for so long to do it. 🙁
Good luck with it all. You are pretty brave to just go for it. 🙂

Mick058 ·

yeh well done mate.

Get yourself some wood chocks and make sure you support the car on more than just the jack! Axles stands are good and cheap too.

izac ·

hey jason, i dont know how long since they have been rebuilt but they have come off an alfa... they have been cleaned recently apparently though.

Thanks Mick, yeah i have the axle stands under the rear torsion housings and the front wheels are chocked on ramps.... it seems pretty sturdy but it is scary when you think about the angle it is on...🤓

colonel mustard ·

You know your dells are still up on thesamba... ??

I think I like the idea of these - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=731616

(40's)

With this kit (type one duh!) - https://secure.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?productid=537 (is it the one you got???)

Oh, might be nice on a Rod penrose 1916....

Trickysimon's new engine.... it looks awesome, and will be interested to see how much it puts out
Ah, If only I could afford that. I would totally race at warwick. 🙂

izac ·

yeah they are still 'for sale' , but thats the seller problem not mine. yep thats the kit i got, except short manifollds for the t3.

keep saving man and one day you will be able to do it... but i admire what you are doing with your time and money (lack of 😂) right now keep at it and you will be rewarded!

izac ·

got the old Solex 32 Pict 3 carbs off today along with all the tinware... they will be up for sale soon if anyone wants them.
gave the heads and spark plugs a bit of a clean and then covered the ports... started painting the tinware aswell (the all imposrtant bit 😂)
now just have to get the manifold kit in the mail and bolt em on, should be sweet 👍 something will probably be wrong along the track as always but thats half the fun haha

took some pics but am not able upload them for some strange reason. will take some more with the other camera and put them up soon😎

colonel mustard ·

Ovi is being crap - it doesnt make sense anymore. Painting tinware is a mega good idea. clean up as much as you can while its out, set the tappets, gap ya plugs. fun stuff. 🙂

Thanks for your previous comment, I appreciate it. Its actually kinda tough finacially at the moment, but my job starts soon, so hopefully get it going well. YMIS is the sweetest course ever. 🙂

izac ·

cool man glad to hear that.

yeah ovi is crap now... i have changed to using photobucket now. yeah i cant find the guage so i havent measured the clearances yet, might have to buy a new one.

Joel ·

colonel mustard wrote:Ah, If only I could afford that. I would totally race at warwick. 🙂
you dont need a big $$ engine to race at valla
hell, team china proved that one

1x free beetle and 1x $50 unknown 6 volt 1300 engine
as they put it so elegantly: fun for under $500 LOL

Even Steves young bloke had a blast in there stock 1600 Lbug

colonel mustard ·

Well... I may give it a blast. Im thinking dyno day would be fun/ny. 🙂 could be sweet.

izac ·

ok heres some pics with the carbs off...

and with some of the tin ware on.. gave the case a clean with some oven degrease and kero and looks a lot better.

izac ·

does anyone have any ideas on cleaning the ports up on the heads? they look pretty dirty/ gritty..

colonel mustard ·

Use solvent (workshop solvent is clear and kinda like petrol but dissolves grease and other crap) or carby cleaner. use can use it all over the engine as long as you dont run it for a few hours to be safe. it evaporates within a few minutes. solvent is very good... cleaned many gearboxes and rocker covers at mazda with it. 🙂 looking good mate.

izac ·

thanks man yeah i used a bit of kero on them which seemed to work alright.🙄

got the parts yesterday! o h yeah now the fun begins... 😎 i love parts stashes

started a mock up of carbs on the manifolds on one side of engine...

do i locktite these studs to the manifolds or what?

the throttle shaft spring/ butterfly opener mechanism was just catching on the manifold so had to do some clearancing with the file...

went to test fit tops and air filters but there is a thing sticking up that stops the air cleaner base plate from sitting down flat...

cant see it in the dellorto tech book.. does anyone know what its for? or hjow i can get it off?

colonel mustard ·

is the one of the sticky up things on each carb??? can you swap the plates around to find a hole for it..... might just be a silly thing that you missed...

izac ·

ok have finished bolting it all together tonight... now just have to adjust linkage and add the fuel lines and shes ready to go.
changed the venturis over to 28mm from 32mm and set idle and mixture control so hopefully the jetting will be ok

regarding the chokes i dismantled them and then screwed the cover piece back on seperately to cover the hole

matara ·

If your converting to beetle axles can we get some pics of that too please!

izac ·

yep sure Steve. il make sure i take some when i get around to doing them.🙂

Peter_D_C ·

Lookin good Izac. let us know how she goes with the dells. Saw you drive past on Kelvin Grove Road a number of weeks back. I was stuck in traffic going the other way.... 🙁

izac ·

im suprised i didnt see you if you were in the square... hope i get to see it in the flesh one day. will let you know how the dells go when i get it back in the car 😎

Bizarre ·

izac wrote:changed the venturis over to 28mm from 32mm
Why would you do that?? 🤪

colonel mustard ·

cause its a 1500....

izac ·

Bizarre wrote:
izac wrote:changed the venturis over to 28mm from 32mm

i think there is more chance it will run smoother with the 28mm vents rather than the 32's as it is only a stock engine with the stock cam. we'll see how it goes and if it is too tame i might switch to the 32s then..

what do you think?

colonel mustard ·

well.... its a stock motor..... you will kill it if you give it too much. then you can go all out. YAY!!

colonel mustard ·

Also, do you ever wear closed in shoes.....:S

izac ·

colonel mustard wrote:Also, do you ever wear closed in shoes.....:S
nup 🙅

colonel mustard ·

you havent dropped a darn mazda 3 box on your foot to learn... hahahahah.

Its looking awesome mate. I started target this week... so carbies on the list of things to do. Need to get my guitar serviced before i go north next month. Normanton here i come... 🙂

izac ·

thanks man, yeah i hope to put it back in in the next couple of days

Bizarre ·

colonel mustard wrote:cause its a 1500....
really??

I would have thought a 1500 was a single port??

izac ·

yeah it is actually a 1600 dp not a 1500. i think jason was just going by the original engine it is supposed to have
cheers

izac ·

ok it is already to go back in and i have a few questions about jetting the carbs correctly for the engine...

the carbs are setup at the moment with 28mm venturis, 180 Main/air, 135 Main/Gas, 52 Idle Gas, 33 Acc/Pump.

does this formula sound alright for a mostly sock 1600?

here is the engine ready to go back in..

also what do i do with this pipe coming from the oil filler that originally went to the oil bath air cleaner?

fuel lines done

is this fuel filter suitable?

blocked off the right side double banjo with a screw with a piece of fuel hose and a hose clamp..

planning to put it back in tomorrow so we'll see how it goes!

colonel mustard ·

Eh. I thought you told me it was a 1500..... nevermind.

Is that fuel line the same as the original??? I much prefer the genuine stuff.... i think it lasts longer... If the filter ends fit in the lines.... your all sweet. that filter is from a carby laser/323 🙂
looks good. why dont you paint your exhaust while its out?

matara ·

Put some wire on those fuel lines whilst you can. Last thing you want is one of them slippling off (especially if its had E10 in it).

Looking good

Cheers

Steve

colonel mustard ·

Wire??? I'm failing to know what you mean by that....

Izac, you could put a breather box off the oil line... Of a breather of some kind. Don't block it off.
I can probs get you one second hand for cheap...

Bizarre ·

"my opinion" for a 1600 i would have left the 32's in there
If is also Jon from ACnet's opionin as well

1600 Option - http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=FSK0020&cartid=
"We will configure your dual 40 or 44 IDFs for optimum use. We change the venturis to 32mm, and rejet the idle, main, and air jets for this price"

For some reason others promote 28 in there but i have never seen a set run properly set up that way

Main should be 4 to 4.2 x the venturi size
so .........
28 = 115 main
32 = 130-135 main

Airs - add 50-60 to this

Idles is what your engine wants
My webers wanted 45's
Personally i reckon 52's is a tad big - when you find "best lean" you wont turn out as far.
See how that goes - maybe the idles wont block up as much as mine did

So - your jets are set up for 32 venturis not 28's
You should either change back or get some different main jets and air jets

Have a read here as well
http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/jetting.htm

Get your self a goos synrcometer as well
like the "new style" one listed here
http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=TZE0021&cartid=0417200931841716
then read here
http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/dualcarb.htm

Have fun

izac ·

thanks for your help Bizzare
i am considering changing the vents back to 32s before i put it in... so you dont think 32s with this jetting combo will be to much for the little whippersnapper do you?

thanks Steve, i will pur some zip ties round the fuel lines if thats what you mean..

izac ·

jason, no the fuel line is just rubber hose not the original braided fuel line unfortunately

colonel mustard ·

Would you rather the rather the genuine fuel line?? Its only like $8 a meter... Its heaps better for VW's IMO.... I used the single braid/ double rubber line for a few months, and its not really that great... but lucky its not a huge deal to change it over. Was I right about the filter??? (im sure its the old KE model filter...)

this is what im going to have for my oil breather setup ..... im going a bit different to usual, its not going to vent the tappet covers, just from the filler and one air cleaner.... cheap and easy 🙂

Bizarre ·

izac wrote:thanks for your help Bizzare

not at all - i ran that exact set up on a 1600 and a 1776 with excellent economu and performance

izac ·

ok cool hopefully it will work well.

i got the engine in this afternoon but will have to wait for tomorrow to get it running - ran out of time and was feeling pretty lousy.

didnt take any pics coz my camera is out of batteries, but the air cleaners are ridiculously tight fit... i knew they would be tight but not this tight!! one side is literally touching the engine bay metal!! will this cause damage with vibration etc..?

izac ·

i cant get the ignition working..
i wired everything back up and went to turn the the key and...nothing. 🙅 the lights dont come on or anything and pressing the button does nothing of course.
im sure its wired up correctly. i took note of how it was before i took it out. red wire to generator on upper + terminal and green wire below. green wire connector has only got half a connector on the end though (has been broken so is a bit loose but there is contact).

is it possible that the battery has gone dead while ive had the motor out?
please help

cheers

izac ·

heres some pics of the engine in..

you can see how tight the dells are in there...

izac ·

dells

izac ·

not sure what do do with that hose coming from the airvents into the engine bay or the old choke leads..

colonel mustard ·

Looks good mate!

probs zip tie the old choke leads out of the way. not a good idea to cut them... :| or you could just remove them all together....

matara ·

So how does it go? 😉

izac ·

hey steve - havent got it going yet unfortunately..

thought i had a flat battery but then i found i can get a spark from it... so not sure what the problem is but there is nothing when i turn the key... what a downer 🙅

matara ·

Check you've not nudged the wire off your starter solenoid when pulling the engine. Also. Check you've not blown a fuse with those carb preheat wires as they can easily ground out.

Cheers

Steve

izac ·

thanks Steve will check that/

izac ·

checked to see if there were any fuses blown, but they alll looked alright...also checked the wire to the starter solenoid that was alright as well..

colonel mustard ·

I hear its running now. Hope that some dude helps you with the oil breathing tomorrow. - Don't you love free bumps. I do.

Burrelli ·

Hi.. If you have trouble with the carbs hitting the body, try shimming the rubber mounts on the subframe. They settle in over the years and the engine moves up in the engine bay.

izac ·

Burrelli wrote:Hi.. If you have trouble with the carbs hitting the body, try shimming the rubber mounts on the subframe. They settle in over the years and the engine moves up in the engine bay.
Hi Burelli

That sounds good but im not exactly sure what you mean (where are the rubber mounts?). I would have thought shimming them would make it higher but thats probably cause im not sure where they are...

cheers

Burrelli ·

Hi izac
The Subframe is the tortion bar housing and forks that your engine and trans bolts into. On a type 3 it is rubber mounted to the floor pan and not welded like a type 1. It is mounted at 3 points, over the years the rubbers deform (on a swing axle car especially) and the subframe, engine, trans all move up closer to the hatch and load floor. I don,t know where originally it all should sit but some shims (big washers) underneath the 2 back ones, just enough to get some clearance for your air cleaners should be OK.

izac ·

ok sweet. thanks for that info... i'll have a look under there tomorrow.

cheers

Burrelli ·

Heh.. I just remembered the subframe attachs at 5 points but you get the idea.

izac ·

izac ·

I bought a Pertronix ignitor points replacement module and installed it today... and the engine wont start.
It just cranks over...??
not sure why this is but is annoying because it was running...

izac ·

had a small 'ding' a couple of weeks ago and had to get a new bonnet.

got one thanks to Simon (volumex on here) 👍

have to decie to whether to keep it rat looker or get both apron and bonnet painted under insurance

colonel mustard ·

looks hot! get the badge back on and go for it! LOVE IT 🙂

DU88EN ·

keep it rat! looks dope

DaveCarter ·

only just came across the build. its coming along nice. you are doing exactly what i wanted to do before i got a beetle. still got love for the type 3s but just ended up with a bug. looks like it is going to end up a sweet car

Scarab ·

....get that short axle conversion done and get them BRM's on mate! 😁

sorry bro, just thought I'd give you a bit of encouragement...your square is looking real nice....good work with your carb conversion too mate, does it go a fair bit harder now?

izac ·

😂 thanks man. yeah there's just so much to do and so little time, need to get something done with the gearbox too and get that front apron bent back into shape. oh yeah and get those manifolds clearanced!

yeah it sure goes a lot harder with the carbs. lot of fun to drive 😁

Scarab ·

don't know if you read on my other thread in new members, but I didnt even drive my Notch before I bought it! I didn't even sit in it!! 🤪

I just love the early style type 3's.....in fact I am already looking for a square as well......but no real hurry for that one 😀

There is plenty to do on mine before I need another one!

izac ·

Yeah, I love the early Type 3's too.. they are such good looking car in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind a Notch too. Maybe one day 😂 but one old car is enough time and money for me at the moment 😵

If you plan on lowering yours, I would suggest modifying the bump stops on the front beam as you will find it will be a very bumpy ride if you dont. In my opinion they handle a lot better when they are lowered (and look sweet of course!) especially if you have the right tyres/wheel offset on the front.

Scarab ·

mine has already been lowered all round, but only a slight lowering, possibly only one spline (why bother??)
the future plans entail dropping it quite a bit further. Thanks for the heads up on the bump stops though mate!
I have been reading a lot about lowering on the UK Restocal site, http://www.restowagenuk.com/forums.html
if you haven't checked out that site before...do yourself a favour, they have some SWEET rides!
some of those guys run their cars unbelieveably low!!.....looks good but! 😂👍

Doctor ·

Nice build, im ratting my Type 3 square at the moment, almost finished! Keep at it, Type 3's are a wicked first car, i regret selling my first one, so done let this one go!

bugking ·

good work izac, love the red tinware!

Scarab ·

Hey Izac, how's it going mate? Any updates on the square?

Short axles in yet???

izac ·

hey man, yeah im planning to pull the engine and box on Monday as I have just quit my job so have the whole week off to do it!

I just got some new tyres on the front yesterday which I'm really happy with. They are Kumho KH11 Ecsta 155/60R15 - got them from Brendon at F1 Wheel and Tyre on the Gold Coast for $119 each if anyone wants some. They are loads better than the 135's with more rubber on the bitumen and smaller profile so no rubbing and look sweet!

will get some pics

izac ·

Mick058 ·

nice work - get those rears on!

Scarab ·

Nice work mate!

Sorry to keep busting your chops on the short axle thing, but I'm hoping you will work the kinks out for me, so I can do it easily 😂 Please load as many photos as possible etc....

So what axles are you planning on using....sorry if I missed it in an earlier post or something....I just want to know what I need to be on the lookout for my project Notch.

Pulled the seats and carpet out last weekend, and guess what I saw???......the driveway!!! 👎 major rust in the rear footwells, bit bummed about it really....but all the more incentive to pull it apart and do a proper job 😂

So, quit your job eh?? whats up with that? Not happy? do you have another one to go to? Hope so mate, otherwise you won't have any cash to spend on the square! 😢

got them for just over a grand with 135/165 nankangs and wolfsburg caps to boot! all brand new thanks Ronnie 👍

not sure about the 135s though, look terribly skinny! might swap them for something a bit wider was thinking some Federal FD1 165/50s

cant wait to get them on the car but will have to wait a bit longer (hopefully some time this week) as it is still at Custom Veedub and when Pete gets back from fraser...

the car will hopefully be on the road in the next couple of weeks... its had main seal done, trans out replace axles (might have to slap some short axles and tubes in there as the wheels (MWS repro brms) only have ET25 offset but should just tuck in with that negative camber!) ..... still gotta replace that passenger side floor..

plans after that are some new carbies for a bit more oomph, been looking at these http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C13%2D47%2D7341
but have restrictions due to the small space under the engine lid... any suggestions or advice would be good
have a stock 1500 (sp i think) with twin solex carbs that need replacing

cheers
Hi Izac,

Wondering what you are doing with these centre caps? i dont think these are for a BRM, are interested in parting with them ?

Car looks great need any bits?

Hi Izac,

Yeah those centre caps don;t fit the BRM's without a spacer - so not planning to use them. Just gonna roll without caps, adds to the rat look me thinks 👍

Where abouts are you mate? You can have if you want em.

Only parts I need at the moment are the short axles and tubes.

Cheers

Cylon ·

Cheers mate, any chance you could measure the edge that sits in the wheel? just wanna make sure the fit. I am in Melbourne. what do ya want for em ? happy to pay.

Cheers

izac ·

Scarab, yeah mate quit my job and am going to be studying for next 6 months so hopefully will get Youth Allowance and still have a bit to spend on the old girl.

Planning to use axles and tubes out of a pre 67 ? beetle which had the short ones.

Yeah mate I found a whole lotta bitumen staring up at me when I pulled the carpet to! 😵 sounds like its time for some new metal to weld in (see page 1 of this thread for pics of pan 🙄 - cleaned up alright though).

Scarab ·

Already read your thread a couple of times mate...... Im just waiting for more updates 😂

What are you studying (if you dont mind me asking) Hope all goes well for you mate, all the best!

izac ·

im doing a 6 month course through an organisation called YWAM which involves Youth Work/ Music/ Bible study etc. also involves going over sea's for a couple of months to a 3rd world country and volunteering in various area's over there. Looking forward to it very much - should be a life changing experience!👍

bugking ·

Your square is looking great - nice and low! have you got those rear wheels on yet?

izac ·

thanks man. not yet, but the plan is to put the short axles in this coming week!! pretty motivated so hopefully i can get it knocked over... will need to get some machining done for swap to work so does anyone know of any good reliable machining shops in brisbane - central/north area?

Scarab ·

Well done on the course mate....should be a great experience for you! I have heard of YWAM through our church here in Adelaide, they do some great work! We had some young fellas from our youth group go over to Kenya recently and help out in orphanages and that type of thing......they said it really had a massive impact on their lives, and made them appreciate the things that we take for granted in our country.....i think we all could be reminded of how blessed we are here!

I would be really interested to hear what is involved with your course and how it all goes for you mate.

All the best!

PS: Get cracking on those axles bro! 😂

izac ·

Thanks man!
I appreciate the support and your interest will let you know how its going. the course starts in october.

have to get those axles done before that and have a youth camp coming up in a week and a bit, so really have to get it all knocked over this week. writing up the 'to-do' list right now! 😉

izac ·

pulled the engine out today and was hoping to get the trans out but i couldn't find the shift rod coupling thing to undo?

never done itt before and was confused by the Idiots guide as it says it should be right in front of the where the engine joins the trans?? i need to find a picture of it... 🤓

Scarab ·

Great job for your first day off work mate! You dont hang around. 😀

Sorry I can't help with the shift rod coupling, I haven't got a clue either....I'm letting you work out the kinks remember 😁

All the best mate....and don't forget to take pictures! Cheers!!

Scarab ·

Mate, I just had a look in the Type 3 workshop manual I have, but unfortunately....no pictures of what this shift rod coupling looks like. Sorry 🙁

A small suggestion for you....get someone to operate the gearlever for you from inside the car while you are watching at the back, this would surely give you an idea of what you are looking for when you see something moving at the transmission end. (I guess that this would be the case, but as I haven't actually done it or seen it done as yet, I am only guessing).

Hope it goes OK for you mate

Paul

izac ·

thanks man. i ended up finding it this morning - its just at the front of the transmission in the area near where the frame horns join.

trans is out finally! only took me 3 hours!! 🙅

now to get those short axles and tubes and get everything machined.

cheers

Scarab ·

Champion!! well done mate!

good luck with the machining mate, hope all goes well.

Nice work izac....love the carpet too.

So who's 'Ronnie', I'd love a set of BRMs for my '62 Bug, and just over a $1k sounds like good bang for yer buck!

Where in Brissie are you?

Nick

izac ·

Hey mate, Im in Newmarket.

Ronnie is a guy who lives on the gold coast and sells vw and hot rod parts on ebay. this is his ebay store http://shop.ebay.com.au/6730/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=
but it doesn't look like he's got any for sale at the moment.

but found this store that sells them
http://shop.ebay.com.au/uniquewheelscomau/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=
looks alright 👍

Nickster ·

sweet, thanks izac 🥷

colonel mustard ·

The engine went back in yesterday. fun stuff 🙂

Scarab ·

good stuff...obviously you are helping, eh Colonel?

How did the machining go on the axles etc. Interested to hear how its all progressing....did you take any photos?

I'm genuinely excited to see how the square looks with a full set of BRMs on it! I am sure you are too Izac!! 😀

colonel mustard ·

I did go and help yesterday. lots of stuff got done, lots of stuff went wrong. I took a few photos, and i may get them up tonight. maybe.
Izac had got the new axles in and the rear hubs back on. His drums were off for machining.

should be done by the end of next week I think. 🙂 just a few things to hook back up (clutch cable, throttle cable, throttle linkage, hand brake line, rear brake line, engine bay eletrical, breather lines, fuel lines + CLAMPSSSS!!!!) , and a few leaks to fix...... woooo.

The new tires look sick on the front, And I think I have changed my mind back to BRM's... 🙂

Scarab ·

hahaha.....BRMs seem to be able to grab you I reckon. I have seen a set of full polished ones and now I WANT them BADLY for my Notch!! 😂

Keep up the good work guys.....the fiddly things always seem to add up when putting things back together, just knock em off one by one and they'll be done in no time.

izac ·

yeah we had gearbox oil leaking everywhere out of the ends of the axles tubes so I must not have put the seals in right.
went to pull backing plates off to have a look what was going on and the O-ring seal was broken, so have to get some new seal sets, learn how to install it properly and try again.

trickysimon ·

Not sure if it's the same for the beetle, but I used Daves guide in the latest VWMA to put all the seals and o-rings on my axles.

izac ·

thanks man! will have to go and get myself a copy.... and some new seals.🙄

colonel mustard ·

Hope miles is treating you well today izac 🙂

izac ·

haha funny you should say that man... those fuel clamps and brether hose were a pain to get on 😉
looks like i might need some of those 90* breather fittings, i can't get the hose to fit!

got my drums back today and bought 2 more seal kits and a VWMA mag so hopefully will give the backing plates another crack tomorrow morning.

colonel mustard ·

my bad on the fuel hose/clamps. the hose was killing me to get on.

90* fittings. good idea.

izac ·

😂 no worries man.

yeah but where do you get them from???

colonel mustard ·

dunno... auto shops? repco is better than supercheap...

i got a large tee for breather hose, it was made of plastic. its probs possible to get them in 90*'s

izac ·

where did you get those gold 90* fittings from?

colonel mustard ·

same place i got the hose, budget auto oxley.

Doctor ·

izac wrote:

Thats an awesome ride height, how many splines front and rear?

izac ·

thanks man. i think i went 3 outers in the front and 2 inner splines in the back.

Doctor ·

izac wrote:thanks man. i think i went 3 outers in the front and 2 inner splines in the back.
Awesome, basically the same as what i was planning for mine, except now im going the same height as yours in the front, i was planning on 2 in the front, but that looks awesome...

colonel mustard ·

oi... did you get the drums back yet? I hope you cleaned the oil off the shoes!

izac ·

yep.

well its rolling now... and looks pretty sweet. got the new seals in etc. and put drums back on then plonked it down on the Brms 😎

the only thing is, I broke the 2 steel brake hoses coming from the backing plates and can't unscrew the broken piece where it connects to the rubber line. so I am not able to connect the new steel lines up 😠 not sure how im gonna get them off...

will post pics tomorrow

colonel mustard ·

but the brakee line isnt stuck in the hub is it?? You can get the hose doctor out.... they do brake lines from memory... 🙂

izac ·

no its not stuck in the hub, its stuck in the fitting that goes onto the rubber line.

hose doctor.... sounds interesting. 😏

colonel mustard ·

oh, the old one is stuck? ring hose doctor, see if they can help. goooogle is your friend.... or the yellow pages. Get it driving boy! when is body work going down?

izac ·

yeah might give hose doctor a ring tomorrow.

probably will get body work done week after next as I am going away next week.

thanks man

colonel mustard ·

keep rockin' Izac, you champ 🙂

Scarab ·

hey bro, hows it all going?

by the sounds of it, you've got the majority done and the BRMs on....well done. How did you break the brake pipe, was it a seized fitting or something????

hope all is going OK for you.

you and Colonel sound like you are good mates, its great having mates that are interested in the same stuff as you, well done guys......keep V Dubbin'it!

colonel mustard ·

hard at work....

ewwww... leaky... 🙁

hotness...

ratlook? yeah boy...

tool to fill the gearbox oil....

dellorto's and thunderbird.... 🙂

sad damage....

love those BRM's

engine back in..

izac ·

no, this is not ssome sort of smoking device just in case anyone was wondering 😉 😂 it is a hose we used to fill the gearbox.

my dreads don't help my case either 😂

nice pics by the way man

Scarab ·

Glad you were wearing your safety shoes too Izac!! very OH&S!! 😂

Well done guys....is it driveable yet? ....im hanging out for some pics with the full set of BRMs on.......waiting, waiting, waiting......😂

izac ·

😂 yeah thongs probably arent the most sensible option

not quite driveable yet, planning to spend a whole day on it tomorrow so will let you know how i go. hopefully i'll get it finished! 😵‍💫

colonel mustard ·

I dont know if iv ever seen izac wear shoes... certainly not whilst working on cars though.

Doctor ·

Thats exactly how i work on my cars! And how i spend almost every day, boardshorts, t-shirt and thongs.... Usually with some dark sunglasses and a camera on me as well though....

On a side note... your aircleaner setup... can that be run on standard carbies or do you need other ones?

izac ·

yeah those air cleaners only fit dellorto and weber carbs. the stock air cleaner works better though in my opinion as it circulates the air like it was designed to from the side vents. i would use the stock air cleaner on mine if it fitted on the dells 😢

izac ·

a few dodgy pics of BRM's on the back

a pic of what brisbane looked like yesterday

and one of today 😀

Scarab ·

mate, you weren't kidding when you said 'dodgy pictures'......you can hardly tell they are BRMs, the photos are that dodgy 😂😂😂😂

At least they are on there mate, well done!!

Perhaps try getting it out of the shed next time you are gonna do a photo shoot 😂

izac ·

😂😂 yeah i know but i hadnt hooked the brakes up yet so didnt wanna roll it out side 🤓

about to go and bleed the brakes now, be back soon

colonel mustard ·

what did you do about brake lines at the rear.... Make sure you adjust the hand brake cables evenly 🙂

then take it outside and get a full shot of the BRMS!!!!

yay, nearly there man 🙂

colonel mustard ·

6 hours of brake bleeding.... man, thats painful

izac ·

😂 yeah wasn't quite 6 hours but painful none the less - couldn't get the front bleeders undone! 😬

was so close to getting it finished!!! dad helped me to undo the broken brake lines so that was good.

only a few more things to do, so hopefully today is the day.

colonel mustard ·

YAY!!!

Scarab ·

well???....how'd it go mate? all good???

izac ·

i suppose i better not leave you guys hanging. made some good progress today (only had half a day) but unfortunately didn't quite get to pulling it outside for a 'photoshoot'.

got the engine up and going! sounds fantastic 👍

and got everything pretty much done and was able to back it up to park it at end of garage... wasnt expecting the clutch to work! 😀

plans for tomorrow are - bleed brakes (front ones this time hopefully), then check all connections and bolts/hoses etc, tune up and then PHOTOS!!!
hopefully everything will be sweet so I can drive up to camp at the sunshine coast on Sunday!
and hopefully the 'modified' are cleaners will run alright... planning to get some new ones like this soon though.

http://www.lynxcorp.com.au/shopping/occ/productimages/RF640S.jpg

photo's tomorrow!!

gsa2at ·

the car looks sweet - i love those wheels
good to see you doing the work in yor safety boots

if you are coming up the sunny coast let us know by pm - we';d love to see the square in in the flesh

Scarab ·

well done mate!, looking forward to seeing the photos 😁

have a good day and hope all goes smooth!

izac ·

thanks guys!

gsa2at, I will be at Alex heads for the week as a volunteer on a youth camp so won't get much time to get out unfortunately. where abouts on the coast are you? would be cool to bump into each other though - if you see the square definitely come say hello 👍

Jack is looking great by the way, when is rego planned?

izac ·

here tis:

no sunshine coast rip for this one tomorrow though few issues with engine unfortunately, was downstairs til 7:30pm tonight trying to sort it out. so close, but not quite safe enough to make the trip 🙄

Scarab ·

what a shame it cant make the trip with you 🙁 but mate....what a difference with a full set of BRMs!!!!

that square is ROCKIN' !! seriously cool, are you happy with the results mate? the stance looks great, the clearance on the rear looks spot on, and that little bit of camber.....LOVE IT!!

have a great time on camp bro....you deserve to have a few days away with all the work you put in on the square this week, well done 👍👍

donovan ·

pity you cant bring the square up. would love to see it in the flesh. if you are suffering withdrawals while you are here,
theres plenty to do on mine!!!!!!!!!!

izac ·

yeah really happy with it thanks man. im digging the raked stance and clearance are perfect i think - 15mm clearance from side guard.

thanks man - have ordered some new parts so hopefully when i get back from camp i can get it going again!

talk to you in a weeks time!

Scarab ·

have a great time!

DaveCarter ·

Looks awesome dude. Exactly what i would do if i had a wagon. I love it

mister_e ·

Wow, nice type3, i just picked up a 68'... It has a little less rust, and someone put a 2" lift on it that I want to remove, other than that it's white like yours and has a lot of older chrome....

Doctor ·

Lookin good man, just need to get those Vanetians back in now!

Any tips on lowering, i plan on doing mine in the next few weeks...

Scarab ·

hey docotr, check out you tube, there are some good videos on how to lower your type 3....the guy does it step by step, front and rear, in about 7 or 8 videos.

try this link......

hope that works for you, if not, go to you tube and type in lowering type 3 vw, that should get you where you need to be....low and scrapin 😂

Scarab (aka:Paul)

Doctor ·

Ive read almost every article and watched almost every vid, just wanted to see if he had any tips that guys havnt put in vids etc

colonel mustard ·

Izac Won't reply till sunday/monday. thanks for the questions, He will get to them soon. 🙂 😂

Doctor ·

Thats cool, i knew he was going away, doesnt phase me when they get answered, as long as their answered BEFORE i start to lower mine haha

izac ·

doctor, dont't have many tips except for make sure you mark where you started - front on the trailing arm and back on the sprint plate. and be careful with making sure which splines you are adjusting inner or outer. shoot us any questions you have when you get down to doing it 🙂 hth

Doctor ·

Did you find the Front or Rear more difficult?

Should be doing it next Saturday at my mates place... See how things go, but fingers crossed it should be done!

izac ·

i think the front was easier from memory. i did the front first and it took a 3-4 hours.

you might find there is a piece of metal pretruding from the the front beam that might stop you from going any lower. this needs to be modified with a grinder if you want to go lower.

Scarab ·

Hey Izac, how was your week away bro? hope all went well 👍

All the best mate,

Paul

izac ·

yeah it was really really good man. its awesome seeing lives changed and being apart of something bigger than yourself! we had a lot of kids from really hard backgrounds and broken families so it can be tough working with them but more than worth it for eternal purposes!
thanks for asking man.

Scarab ·

absolutely mate....thats the way to look at it, our eyes can sometimes only see the 'here and now' but when we step back and put the eternal perspective on things, it really changes your way of thinking, and your motivation!

Good on you mate, you will be rewarded for your efforts!! 👍

colonel mustard ·

Oh yeah 🙂

izac ·

thanks Paul 👍

Made some slow progress today - found it was only firing on 3 cylinders (which explains the fuel leaking out of no. 2 exhaust port) so spent most of the day chasing new leads and the like. But finally managed to get the plug out and it is pretty black and oiled so hopefully if i clean it up it will fix it.

These came this morning 😀 and fitted perfectly! no more clearance issues.

hopefully more progress tomorrow.

colonel mustard ·

Nice work mate 🙂 make sure you get hose clamps on those breather lines. the aircleaners look tops 🙂. I would run those, but they would get wet, and thats a nooooooooooooooo noooooooo.

Scarab ·

looking good mate! The square is really coming along nicely, well done.👍

Peter_D_C ·

Izac,

Do thos ramflos fit on the CB performance aircleaner base or do they come with their own base? You're running dells from memory yeah?

Hopefully my sqr will be back on the road within the week - with a Pobjoy 1916 in the back 😵‍💫

izac ·

Peter_D_C wrote:Izac,

hell yeah man! thats sweet! 😎

yeah they actually fit on the CB bases which is really good so i can still use the same linkage. they do come with their own bases also. highly reccomend them man - revs a good 500- 1000 rpm higher now...🥷

Scarab ·

G'day Izac, just thought I'd check in and see how the squasre is travelling mate.

The axles have been done for a couple of weeks now, have you found any issues/problems or is everything AOK?

Catch ya mate,

Paul

izac ·

hey paul, nah mate unfortunately it hasn't seen much road time at all 😬
the axle tubes have been leaking like crazy and the brakes are shocking among other problems.

Its in at Phoenix engineering at the moment getting the brakes redone - new rear wheel cylinders, rehoned front wheel cylinders, new shoes, etc etc...

not gonna be cheap.. but hopefully they will sort out everything, they also told me the axles were leaking because there were no 'outer axle sleeves' on. so that should fix it 😉

colonel mustard ·

brakes... ya can't skimp on them. But they are painful in cost.

Scarab ·

hope you get it sorted soon mate....and yes, you gotta have good brakes, there's no second chances when you run out of 'em!!

what sleeves are they talking about on the axles, is it a seal or something on the end?

all the best mate,

Paul

izac ·

its a round bevelled metal spacer thing about 12mm thick that goes on the end of each axle.

trickysimon ·

Why didn't you put them back on?

Scarab ·

trying to save weight eh Izac? every little bit helps!! 😂

Paul

colonel mustard ·

You can't save weight with a square.

izac ·

trickysimon wrote:Why didn't you put them back on?
😂 i would of if i had them but i can't remember seeing them there in the first place 🤪

no not trying to save weight 😂

colonel mustard ·

When do you expect it back? body work soon? and when are you taking me for a drive!!!!

izac ·

haha umm hopefully i will have it back sometime this coming week, then probably straight off for body work

colonel mustard ·

Yay for body work. 🙂

still taking it with you? or is there a few $$'s left over for a car cover, a good carwash and some timeout in the garage while your away?

izac ·

dunno yet man

empi ·

Make sure you clip the ignition leads into the correct place, Type 3's leads are know for earthing out on the engine cover.

izac ·

cheers man. those photo's with the spark plug leads were taken when i had them disconnected to test for spark, but they are all in the correct places now 👍

izac ·

picking up the car tomorrow morning from phoenix! then starting my course tomorrow so there won't be a lot of updates from now on.

the brakes should be good now after spending the last week at phoenix but don;t know what the bill is goona be yet! 🤓

trickysimon ·

I think you better get the shovel to start digging deep into your pockets 😂

izac ·

yeah how deep you reckon its gonna be...? go on have a crack... then we shall find out tomorrow...🤓🤓🤓 🤪

trickysimon ·

I guess $500

izac ·

i hope you're right...

colonel mustard ·

I guess $250 because you should tell them your a poor student guy..

izac ·

you guys were way off 😂😂............

$900 😵

colonel mustard ·

darn!

izac ·

nah the brakes are sweet now! so I'm happy 😀

heres what I had to have done:

Check brakes allround
New rear wheel cylinders
Recondition all four front wheel cylinders
New front and rear shoes
New gear rod coupling
New axle seals
Bleed and adjust brakes

Peter_D_C ·

You got off lightly compared to me Izac, very lightly..... 🙁

Scarab ·

brakes are one thing it doesn't pay to short cut on mate.

at least you will be confident in braking hard if some knucklehead pulls out in front of Miles.👍

izac ·

heres my sweet new paint job and smooth panels on the front yeeeeeeah! so nice you can see yourself in the reflection! 👍

man check out that front apron mmmm

izac ·

A big thanks to David Kearley from Kearley Auto and Simon (Volumex) for the hood!

pete, you weren't happy with the price? what happened?

the ramflo's are 400 cfm's by the way.

cheers

Doctor ·

Not bad, i think i prefer the old bonnet though! Its all coming together nicely mate, my Cousin is trying to convince me to ship my square up to QLD for his sisters wedding next year so he can cruise with me, might have to get some shots of ours together if it happens!

trickysimon ·

Looking good mate 👍

colonel mustard ·

time to get the rest of the car done..... ha.

Hows things Izac. hit me up with a message some time. Not on FB though... oh yeah.

Scarab ·

That is looking sweet mate....well done!

Doctor ·

What stud pattern does your car run Izac? Do they differ from early to late?

Izac's car has the wide 5 stud pattern. I believe late type 3's had the 4x130 stud pattern, the same as post 68 beetles, just a different offset. BRM's are only made in 2 stud patterns for air cooled's + another for new beetles (17inch). Hope that helps?

Well! Had many interested but no takers and turned out I was given the money I needed to go travelling! So I am keeping it, which I am very happy about! 😀😁

Im in Peru at the moment so my sister is looking after it for me while Im a way... shes still on her L´s. But she took it to custrom veedub and Pete fixed up the air leak in the manifolds so I hear its going pretty strong! I miss it over here! And my dad is also building it a carport! 👍😎

Theres so many VWs over her in Cusco! Id say about 40% of the cars here are Bugs!

Heres a couple of dodgy photos I took out of the bus today... i always see this sweet Dual Cab Split ute when we go into town so i tried to get a pic of it but people were standing in the way! Its a sweet bus though 😵

All the best mate,

Paul
