Yes that is possible and popular.

That being said..
if it has pulled a head stud it may need other work also.
(crack check, line bore, deck barrel face etc)

You may be able to find a stud with an oversized self-cutting thread at one end - they used to be sold at VW shops to 'fix' this problem. Not sure where, though, as I have never used one

Okay found them here's the page

http://www.dansperformanceparts.com/buggy/epc/buggyep%201%20case.htm

while reading the description I realized I already had one in it
Thought it was a strange stud
I also found on the same page case savers 14mm od they should solve it
an easy tapping job then

heres a pic of mine and the damage

You can get 12mm ones and also 1/2inch and 14mm.
And you could make any size you wanted if you had to.

I would go 12mm or 1/2", that way you have options later
and can still bore for larger cylinders if you ever wanted to, without hitting thread.

BME in Dandenong used to have them... now bought out by Unique Auto Parts / Mercwreck

I think they are still using the same number as BME

Silver,

I have an German NOS 1600SP ex-industrial 126 case that had 16 hours service that you can have for $200. This does have 10mm studs and small 8mm oil galleries, but perfectly suited to a 1600SP application (just not the right case for a hot engine). You'd need to put your internals into it, but at least you'll know its not had a regrind and is factory tolerance.

Cheers

Hi Ho Sliver

Mataras offer sounds like a a good idea. All the single port cases seem to have a more fragile alloy than the later cases, you will get this problem fixed and another one will strip soon after.

That has to be the deal of the century.
Excellent value and a sold base for many miles to come.
