decked dubby 路

Found at the VW nationals, 25th May 08.

Was stripped back in 2001. All the parts were placed in the car. It sat under a tiny carport in the southern highlands for the next 7 years.

I wish the last owner had done something more to it. 馃檮 I'm pleased to see it's finally moved. What's in store for it DD?

Bizarre 路

I narrowed the standard beam 2".

decked dubby 路

Decklid was totally rusted off at the bottom. The car came with a donor lid, so the bottom was replaced. I then blended the lower paint so it now looks un-touched.

pyr0 路

nice work damo 馃憤

decked dubby 路

Interior is all original.

Still has a nice covering of moss.

Thanks to Kimm from Indian who donated the missing VW bonnet emblem.

decked dubby 路

Cheers Luke.馃憤

All mechanicals have been gone over. All new brakes, master cylinder, lines, wheel cylinders etc.

Engine is a 1500 from a 69 bug. All electrics are now 12v.

Check the tank!

newghia 路

As i said yesterday, nice metal-work, very talented Damo. Hope you got some sleep last night.

Here's a few more of Dr Karl.

Tucked in...

Dr Karl and a couple of hoods

Dr Karl celebrating rattiness - you can really see the hard work that Damo's done on that rear lid matching up the old, and older paint. Top job.

That is just awesome. I looked at this car at the Nats and thought it had potential but to see it back on the road in a month is unreal. Makes me look slack as I'm still trying to change engines after 3 months.

Yeah, had to pass a blue slip. Being that the semaphores are a standard item, as long as they work, they cant knock them back.

The plates, cant give away all my secrets.馃槈

Thanks mate. I actually didn't relise it was only a month. I was trying for the lawn bowling cruise actually. Worked till 4am sunday morning, then back up early and at it again. When people started to arrive it still hadn't been started and i was cranky and tired! The test drive was actually the cruise!馃槀

Congrats Damo,

I love your work, I followed you back from the rod show at Nambucca late last year, that was me in the Grey Liberty GT Sedan for about half an hour taking shots of your ute.

I love a rat especially a 58, I am taking mine to Nambucca, are you taking your 58?

I looked at your 58 at the Natioanls, but thought it would be too much work to rat it and get it on the road, I thought it had too much rust showing thru for rego without having to paint over it and lose some of the rattiness, how did you get it registered? I always have trouble with mine.

Well Done!

David

Thanks David! Yeah i remember you beside me for ages!

Yeah, i will be going to valla in the 58. I repair the rust and blend the paint dude so its near undetectable. The concrete truck has new sills etc, but i try and make them look like shit when i paint them.馃槀

Went to Windsor on Sunday shopping and to see my mate Trev. The pope flew right over Dr Karl as he was landing.

id love to see the pope flying over anything at his age especially in the lovely dresses he has chosen for his aussie visit but flying over a 58 beetle in a dress as it was landing is impressive.................. even for the pope
ps i understand doing jumps for the pope ...........but ...............you really should keep the jumping to a min in your 58 its way to low to be jumping it for every bennidect(tom), john(dick) and paul(harry)
