I was looking at car ads on gumtree.com.au and came across a nice P1800 Volvo. The ad wording looked dodgy with the car advertised in Melbourne with what looked like NSW rego.I emailed the seller and got the following:

The car is in excelent condition as it's presented in the add.

I always kept it in my garage,away from bad weather and it looks gorgeous.
It's my personal car.No money owning ,no finance .

I've worked in Australia for the last 2 years and I've purchased the car there. My company wanted me back home, so currently I'm in Milano. I've brought the car home with me and it's now located in Italy since Jan 2008 and still has Australian Rego !

I've decided that it's better to sell it because I don`t use it anymore (the steering wheel is on the right side and it' very difficult for me to drive it), it `s a pity to keep such a car and not to use it.
Now I'm trying to sell it back for such a low price because next week I have a deadline term for paying those taxes.
I tried to sell the car in Italy , but nobody want to buy a right side steering wheel car.
It has title of ownership, cleared of any obligations or fees and comes with all the documents you need to register it and a new RWC will be provided on purchase.

My car is already at DAS airfreight department international delivery at their local representant.

We can use an escrow agreement to facilitate payment so that we both can be 100 % protected. www.escrow.com

I will also supply some more pictures as soon as i get home from work.

If you are interested , please reply with the following information's in order to arrange shipping at DAS airfreight department:
-Your full name ;
-FULL delivery address(with zip code);

What a joke. Seriously, what are they thinking?
by the way, this is not the only dodgy ad, there were several including a 2004 Cayenne for $58k (complete with a european number plates too???????)

Be careful of identity theft guys

I reckon get stuck into it and string them along for a while. It reminds me of the Nigerian scammers that got scammed, whereby this guy got them to tattoo onto themselves that they were a scammer, before he then cut down all communication. I'll see if I can find the link.

Found it!!!

There's alot of car ads popping up like that. Saying they're are in another country but offering to use an escrow agreement to "cover" you. Sadly quite a few have fallen for the scam...

What about the calls to mobiles that hang up before you can answer. You call back the number and it's some bloody telemarketing yobo on the other end trying to sell you something. The last one hasn't had much sleep as I call him from Skype at all hours of the night!! Can't tell where it's coming from and in the end he leaves the phone off the hook. He'll have to change his phone number to get any peace now.

same wording as an ad for a late beetle about 6 months ago ,but it was in baulkham hills and rediculously cheap as well😬

there was a new beetle cabriolet on e-bay, $8000, i was there, i told the guy id meet him at melborne airport and give him cash in hand, then drive it back to perth, he replied the car was now in portheadland at a shipping company, he was working on oil rigs and was now back in the usa, the car needed to be sold , pay cash to the shipping company, if you dont like it when it turns up in perth the shipping company will return your cash. i told him portheadland was "just" round the corner, i'll pick the car up from the shippers and pay them the cash, i never heard from the chap again. bugger really i quite fancied a new bug convertable!

I strung him along and asked for pics. He sent me a few of a very nice restored P1800 with a QLD rego and the response below. Not bad to get a fully restored P1800 including shipping from Italy for $6,200.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have attached some more photos in this e-mail in order for you to have a better view of the vehicle.

The total price will be 6,200 $ au (freight included )
Since the Car is currently registered and have 2008 Rego you will not have to pay any custom taxes and also won't have any problems registering it under your

name.

Let me explain you how the deal works.The deal will be
made using escrow vehicle purchase department so we can be both be protected.The payment will be through escrow sistem and after they will check the transfer and if everything it's ok you will recive the car.
You will also have 5 days for inspection and if the car is the one that you want
you must tell to them to release me the money if not you can send the car back on my expense.

Shipping will be done whit DAS(airfreight) and it will
take no more then 4 days, and I assumed that it is my duty to pay for it.

The car will be delivered directly to your address in the presence of escrow agents located in your area.

This is really a safe way for both because you can make an inspection before actually purchasing the vehicle and once you're satisfied they will send me the

money into my bank account as agreed.

In order to proceed please provide me the following information's:
-Your full name ;
-FULL address(with zip code);

The Advertiser in Adelaide will ask ask you to justify high or low prices in Ads because of the same problem with overseas scams.
