barls ·

has anyone come across a t1 distributer with the part number finishing in 009E.
its an electronic ignition version and interested to see if anyone has seen or used them? even has an opinion on them id like to hear it.
cheers barls

Joel ·

did it come off a vw engine to start with?
cos theres a model of volvo that uses a dizzy identical to a 1600 bug but it has factory electronic igntion
not even efi bugs had electronic ignition
the dissy was totally different on the mex bugs when they eventually went efi

barls ·

not sure if they were originally off something else but they were offered to my old man by someone he normally deals with. looked like a 009 funnily enough but with the electric ignition.
ill ask some more questions i might even get him to send me some pics

barls ·

after talking to him they are similar to these

barls ·

putting one in chaos on the next weekend, will let you know how it goes

barls ·

put one in and killed it in 4 hours. apparently they dont like a lot of heat. i cooked it. i knew it was toast when i popped the cap and smoke was coming out.

Hi

Maybe it needs a different coil, thats why it cooked.

Steve

barls ·

used an electronic ignition coil. even ran it with the stock coil for a while as well.
some instructions in the pack might of helped but there were none

barls ·

it could be a possibility though steve

Joel ·

did it run ok for a while tho?
if so its probably for use with a ballast resistor type coil ie. GT40R and a ceramic resistor not a GT40

once again no instructions or specs given with the unit. it ran all right though for 4 hours.
im washing my hands of it and returning it.

1303Steve ·

I know what's wrong, you let the smoke out😂

barls ·

funny thats what the old man said as well.
for all those none technical people out there here is what steve was talking about and yes it is a proper theory

I think it was probably overvoltage that killed it...

not temperature in the engine bay..

it may have used a different coil etc..??

regulator etc..

it did look good... and looked like a VW dizzy..
but without instructions and specifications etc...

many electronic pickups etc use low voltage

Oh well You tried...

cheers
