** '68 Beetle Stolen - Nth Beaches ** DESTROYED!!!

My sister's 1968 VW Beetle was stolen from out the front of our house between 10pm and 8am on the 14th. 🙁

It was blue and had black on yellow plates - AD-97-KD.

It was taken from Mona Vale.

Spent all day driving around looking for it.

There have been other reports of theft in the area, so be warned.

This is what the car looked like...



It was found early this morning upside down on West Head Rd.

It had been rammed through a steel boom gate.

All the glass had been smashed.

All the panels kicked in.

Some of the seats were missing.

They even took the battery.

This is the aftermath...





Thanks alot to whoever did this.

It was my sister's first car, she was only 18, she'd saved for ages, finally found 'the one', only to have this happen.

I hope you had a great time doing this.

The car is being fingerprinted etc, these people can't be that smart if they tag the car after they steal it.

Hopefully who ever is responsible will be appropriately dealt with.

shit that sucks. hope it was insured. time to find a good donor shell and transfer all the good mech and interior bits. how long had she had it?

if its insured for market value, make sure you research and supply documentation of similar cars for sale for good prices when you take it to them, most of them down there have agreed value but i think?

its very difficult for a young person to get car insurance
at a reasonable cost...
as they have no driving history..

I'm not even sure whether Shannons will insure classic cars owned by young people..

take the steering wheel with you..

Id follow up on the tag, if thats what it is, can you get a close up, i know some people that can chase it up... any other tags or stuff left behind...

I know what it's like, my bug got trashed on the street one night - $3500 worth of damage. Luckily insurance covered it at the time, but I was out of pocket $400 for the excess. It's a horrible feeling finding your car like that!

Hopefully she gets a decent insurance payout, and can find another bug that makes her as happy as this one did. 👍

i tested it out with one of my exs dodgy mates who now has 5 car thefts on his record

The final outcome beside the young ladies loss of her prized car is its another bug off the road, they are getting scarce now, how often do you see a bug on the road during your travels, not often.

If its insured maybe someone on the forum can help out with a body shell etc

There are countries where stealing will get your hands CUT OFF.

They could have spent their excess energy doing volunteer garden work at a school, blackberry bush removal in a national park etc., and did some hard digging until they sweat. Sweat with satisfaction for a job well done, and something back into the community.

Yes, the car was insured, it's being assessed some time next week.

My were really keen to get this beauty back on the road again as it really does still mean a lot to us.

We'll be bringing the car home asap and working out a plan of attack.

The car was assessed today and from an insurance point of view it's a write off.
We have salvage rights, they're being negotiated at the moment, we'll know the outcome of that in the next few days.
If all goes to plan we'll bring the car back to Mona Vale and then we'll need to work out where to go from there (the pan doesn't seem to have endured any damage so resto plans etc are definitely on the cards).
My sister still gets really worked up about it and the whole family really appreciates everyone's support.
The NSW police are investigating and there have been some promising developments.

We're not going to take this lying down and we're pretty determined to bring the car back to life.
Everyone's expressions of sympathy and support have been an enormous boost.
We've been down to the holding yard and took some additional shots.

Once we get it back here, we'll assess the situation and keep you posted.

Being a VW it could be rebuilt with a bit of effort. Looks like the car has been to hell and back! Make sure this time it has a fuel cut off and alarm/imobilizer.

If that happened to my Delilah, id be devastated. Hopefully the body isn't bent or warped and the roof could be popped out, or even a new centre stitched on from a rusty beetle. Hope all goes well and that the bug can be rebuilt, that would be the best ending to a sad tale 🙂

Heres an idea.

Stick on a trailer and take it to Valla, there will be enough parts we negotiate out of the swap meet and over a few beers some of us guys who have been around a while and Dave Birchall can get stuck into it and get it ready for paint on Sunday, then pick up a trophy and drive it home.

It would be good to show how it is done.

What do you think, I can throw some dolies, a hammer, grinder and sander in with me, someone bring a MIG and a compressor.

We will have an AVD project weekend.

ok dont want to be negative but have a good look at it, its buggered, the body is bent everywhere, front sides......, get another body,a lot easier😊, not like its a split window or anything😊

another shell will see it back in action pretty easy
but as rexy said that body's shagged big time
not even a dedicated panel beater would fix it
kink in the drivers rear quarter below the window line from the roll over is terminal not to mention other irrepairable damage

itll still be the same car with another 1500/1300 shell and everything else swapped over

another shell will be easy to find and not much effort to swap either
good ones go cheap on ebay all the time thanks to the offroad/buggy brigades

So you live at Mona Vale a cool Beachy area, your sister is young (I do not normally go down the chop top route) but I say chop it and make a cool convertible, roof problem solved and you still get to keep the car.

Just need to hunt down one of those reinforcement subframes.
