Hey all.

Recently I realised that I had the timing set incorrectly on my van. Correct for factory spec. But incorrect for the octane fuel used.

Set the timing to where it should be. Amazingly the excessive advance was masking the problem somehow.

It took me quite a while to even get the motor to idle again. It would run for a bit then sound weaker until it couldn't turn itself. Sometimes followed by a brief surge before it died.

When it could idle again, it would only idle about as high as 600rpm. Sometimes dropping much lower. Sounding really strange on the left side. The revs would surge a little at random times.

Opening the air bypass screw right up just caused a pulsating whistle.
There is also a mechanical noise coming from the topend somewhere. Reminds me a lot of after I did the first topend rebuild. It was the left side that time too.

What does everyone think is wrong with it? I've just about had it with that motor.
