just tossing round some ideas, anyone tell me whether this sort of combo is worth considering?

New Alu Case or AS41
75mm Crank
92mm Mahle Pistons
125 Gene Berg Cam
around 40x38 valves
Polished n ported heads
40mm Delortos or larger set of webers/FI
10:1 or greater compression

Considering a budget conscious build for a race engine, doesnt have to be nice on the road, sub 2L. I believe I can get most of these parts at a very reasonable price. Any reason a 75x92 isnt commonly used? gives remarkably close to 2L.

high compression, lots of heat and thin walled cylinders.....

you said race engine, what sort of racing?

KAH BOOOOM !

spend it once

vw54 ·

where do you get a 75mm cast crank ???????? thats a weird one

spend it once n dont cry

johny rotten ·

You can buy thick wall 92's now , they would be fine
That is a good combo if you use a forged crank

May be worth considering the WBX crank , it measures up just under 76mm stroke

thanks guys, would be a fun day 1/4 mile strip engine. Not expecting it to last forever, just long enough to decide whether I want to spend more time and money on the strip or not. havent chased down the crank yet, but was pretty sure that they exist. was just the size needed to get that close to 2L, remember reading somewhere that they are out there but uncommon as most people dont use anything under 78?

it's the "cast" bit that's the worry, keep in mind that if it lets go , you can end up with just a pair of heads, worse, even they can be damaged beond repair.............................. one weak point can destroy the whole lot............been there done that

baybuscamperkid ·

oops, that was actually a mistake, meant to type forged.
edited now, thanks

Hmm... if getting close to the 2L mark is your aim, maybe check out BiX's engine spec's in the 1916's thread - gets him in at 1999/2000 cc with 130hp at the wheels.

94 p & c's
69 counterweighted, re ground to 72.3 (or about that, to give 1999.99cc's)
Std mag case (PRC has to use original case material if i ever want to go down that path)
H beam rods-Chevy journal
engle 120
1.25:1 ratio rockers, (with the 120, 253 dur @ 0.050', and just .496' lift)
Cb wedge port, slightly tidied up (top spec)
cromo push rods
billet followers etc
twin 48 ida's
1 5/8 exhuast

plus lots of other bits and pieces.

Yeah, that looked like a good combo, am considering going down that route, sticking with the 69mm crank, but since I have the heads, pistons etc available to me in 92mm just wondered about the viability of a 1995 or similar.
