My first but not my last VALLA

Well completed my first Valla. Tired and grumpy when home but a good night sleep will fix the alcohol consumed.

Thanks to all of those people that organise this event, I had a blast. I can see why it has gone so many years.

Also it was great to put names to faces and meet many of the people I chat with on this site.

Ohh and how was that weather 😎

Ok Me N the Missus + grots were 1st timers and we had a blast except for the bloody kids whinging nearer to the end of the day. Just kids, oh and the end straw for me was when the youngest 2 and a bit went walkabout at the end of the day went AWOL for 15 minutes looking for him and that did it for me Right everyone in the Kombi's.
Apart from that we will all be back better prepared next time.

Oh yeh none of the atached pics are my cars just rather a snapshot of others i have many more.

Never seen so many Dubs in 1 place. friggin awesome.

Give me a break, I just walked through the door after the 6 hour drive............................I knew others were good for photos and Im sure there will be a dedicated Valla photo post. 😂

the less said about that car the better I say. he certainly wasn't making too many friends in the pits with his driving antics and throwing dirt and crap all over the track..........

Thanks a lot daimo. I had a blast at the track even though shitting myself. First time ever on any track. Better make sure I get some track practice and learn how to drive especially as there are many more mods due on the car before next Valla.

Hey do you know if there was anyone at all who would have got some track footage. Would love to have sat on the hill and watched myself go around 🤪

Car looked great Andrew, I stopped on the hill as I was leaving and watched you hammer around the track. Very nice! That a 2.5? the announcer mentioned that it was?

Dam it!!!!!!!! I could have gone, i have my spare gearbox in & working fine on thrusday but i figured that i need it to last a at least few weeks, till the new Albins gears & the lockrite diff arrives, so i played it safe & just went for a gork at the Mt cotton hill Climb instead,,,, but it certainly looks like it was a great weekend,,, i know i would have been tempted to fang around the race track tho so in one sense i`m glad i didn`t go,,, the tow truck charge back to Brisbane after blowing yet another gearbox would have been a killer :-)

ah well,,, 2 years time i might make it again, i`ve only ever been once & it seems like a life time ago.

I wish Pete, yeah someone else mentioned that to me, its only a 2.0. I saw the speedster sitting at the caravan park and it just didnt click it was yours as i would have liked to introduced myself and had a good squiz at your car. The vehicle you had at Valla is the VW powered or Suby?

It was my first Valla to and I had such a blast!!! Thanx Jace, Jess Chris & Jon for such an awesome time =) Just got home, took us around 6 hours but it was a really nice drive there and back. I've fallen in love with Nambucca & Byron Bay!

Great to see a wide variety turned out.

Absolutely fantastic show, well organised! Highly recommend anyone who has never been to go next time round. It was my first time I went to the vw spectacular, and Im glad I did. So many vws, and the convoy was brilliant. Can't wait for 2010!

yep top weekend as always hooray
however after leaving valla at 6am and driving straight thru n arriving in melberg at 1.30am then being woken at 7am this morning by the roofer i organised a while back fair to say im a wee bit nackered..
when i get my finger out i'll dig out some pics yeah..

valla was such an awesome weekend, the weather was perfect
couldn't have asked for anything more..
even though it was only my 2nd valla it was SO MUCH better then the first one
was good to see most cars arrived safely
i only went through a quarter of a tank of fuel on the way down haha👍...

great weekend as always , missed the very first (not by choice but birth lol) will never miss one again

shame the night life was ruined this year by fire bans and cops in the park

there is normally ppl everywhere till around 5 am each night just roaming fire to fire , starting up random drunken convo's or cruising around the park in there cars at 5kph (with the exception of last year due to rain)
its more social event then car show

i know there is still ppl out there who only go to car shows to bitch about this judge or that trophy , the peoples choice judging has solved alot of that (although you will never shut the trainer queens up completely :P)

ps. ppl who left sunday arvo this year missed the funniest night of the weekend for night life haha

Terrific event, I had a great time all day every days, and half the nights too!

The judging fomat over the last two Vallas has taken the prestige from this event its different strokes for different folks my thing is SHOW CARS others is socializing and caching up with old freinds while others are just there for the Volkswagen seen ,Its a big effort to prepere a car something that is lost on many people , PS I DROVE to Valla and home as I do every show I attend.

im no stranger to the prep that goes into getting a car ready for a show

i love show cars , but no matter how nice or immaculate a car is i will never drive it somewhere to be judged (you love your car who cares if xyz likes it / hates it) all judging gets is ppl pissed off about the fact they missed out or that "joe blow" won
the only trophy i have ever really liked seeing awarded at valla is peoples choice 🙂

love the fact that you are not afraid to drive your car the distance , i dont know if i would have the patience to polish all that after the trip !

No offence taken AVWboy I have betten many high dollar cars and generaly thay come over and congradulate me judging is fine if done to a points format as is the case at most shows, I just love the compertition,I was the same when I was a racing my bike (in my youger years).

My girls vote Dads car the best everytime 😍

I just realised I missed a lot of cars at Nambucca as I was having morning tea in a cafe with the Wife.... lol

although the trip back to Vall beach in convoy was great..

trip took 9 hours with a few stops...

I forgot to say that this is Not My first Valla... Nambucca

but it was my first Time in My Beetle....

all other times I was in a Mitsubishi..

I also do think that there should be some form of structured format as far as judging the cars for the show goes. Unfortunately i have seen a trend in the way the people's choice way of voting is done over the last few years.

He who brings the most friends win an award. Sometimes cars not deserved of a "top 10" are in there and some that should be are not.

Personally there should be categories of people's choice for each model of car say best split screen, best early beetle, best bay window etc etc.

That way you end up with the best of each model not just a heap of cars from the model that is most represented at the show.

There are pro's and con's for having it like this but it works pretty well at Dubs by the pub every year and there are always at least 250 plus cars to look at. Maybe also park all the cars in their respective model groups too.

Yeah I like the idea of winning cars in their own catergory. Thats what I was expecting. You reckon there is any reason for me wanting a modified Type 3 catergory, they are usually spread thinnly so Im always a good chance 😂

million dollar sports like tennis rugby and soccer all have problems with umpires decisions. No point worrying about a vw show when its just a trophy on offer. There's no way a car show is going to be immune when by nature its based on personal opinions and tastes.

Anyway, apart from saturday morning, the volkswagens are almost secondary to the socialising. I've been into VW's for 20 years and there is no way I wold drive all day just to see a car show and drive all day the next day to get back. Its all about the atmosphere.

this is exactly the reason i dont bother entering mine as its generally one of two cars that win it all the time. so whats the point of entering if you know that you have no chance. personally i like the top ten idea as its not scored but on the peoples vote hence the majority has spoken on the decision.

no what im saying is that in the bug side of things its the same people winning all the time. well it has been for the last 3 years. id like a brewery and not have to work but thats not going to happen. hell im one of the few because i believe in air boxes rather than separate air cleaners. everyone is different so be it.

Yeah Barls I know what your saying but thats what I mean breeding new competition. People still admire a good looking car even if its been around for many years but they also get sick of it as new cars hit the seen and isnt that a wonderful thing to see, 30+ year old cars being brought back to life and seeing something new each year, even if it isnt a trophy winner.

its newish. i havent seen one photo of it apart from the ones taken by me and my family. i didnt see one of the blue stretch bug ether. i know it has only just been completed as some of the parts from my crushed body are in it.
i didnt hang around to see who won ether. what im saying is that the vw scene should be more like the hot rod scene where a car has a set show life after that it should be ether retired or renewed. having one or two guys win all the time doesnt create competition it creates resentment and there by people not entering thus reducing the number of entries in the pool. hell i know i dont need validation. my car is different im one of two aircooleds at work, but in the vw scene they see a modified engine bay as not a different engine fitted or modification of the stock motor to bigger displacement but who can have the shiniest with the most bling.

It was the same as when I first went 10 years ago, Andrew. A total of two Type 3's. Dont know why that is the case but Ill certainly have mine there in '10.... Top weekend even if I did nurse a very sore head on Saturday.

Luke, am I right in saying your 69 was for sale? I did look at it but made sure my cheque book stayed in the cabin as I didnt want to molesta an early Fasty with water 😂

Ohh and Im very hurt as well, only one photo has the front headlight of my Fasty 🥲

I will own up, no yellow form, I was quite lost but now better informed. I only grabbed my entry sticker just before I drove the old girl over for the Sunday show and shine😊

Barls correct me but I think what your saying with the judging format that you agree on is no different to what your saying with the pics.................personal choice. I know my camera is digital and almost endless pics but I took only what took my fancy and it didnt include a stretch Beetle all be it interesting.

I would still go to Nambucca if I had a trophy winning car and there were no trophies, so lets have no trophies.

If you want trophies become a game hunter and hang heads on the wall.

Put the trophy money into a pie eating contest, entertainment or a medallion for each entrant. It would give Luke some time to find some gates for his ute and not have to make trophies.

Heres an idea, if you want a car to win car of the day you have to put a gold coin donation in and the owner takes all. The cars that finish outside the top ten would then forfeit the coins and it would go to charity.

Go there and have fun!!!

i guess Valla tries to cater for those who are into the show scene, racing and the social aspects of all things VW. remove any one of these and the whole event kinda defeats it's sole purpose.....

to bring VW enthuisasts together for a great weekend!!
